I'm impressed with that kid. He threw as good a breaking ball as you'll see anywhere. Nobody has a breaking ball that tight. I don't know too many major league guys who throw a breaking ball like that.

His breaking ball worked really well. Seven of his 12 strikeouts, the batter went down looking, didn't swing. A lot of those were on his breaking ball.

We just didn't hit the ball tonight. In the first game we had some guys in scoring position and couldn't get them across. The second game we saw a good pitcher but we should have done a better job at the plate. In the first game we needed hits and we just put the ball in play. He was very sharp. He threw the ball hard, the same old Matt Cain. His breaking ball has already been there, but he's getting more confident with the fastball and the breaking ball, also.

Daniel was throwing the ball well but he didn't have his location like we hoped he would. Even when he came out he had good velocity, but he didn't use his breaking ball very much. He just didn't locate his pitches, that's all.

It really boiled down to us turning the ball over in some clutch situations. We had a six point lead, with the ball, with just over a minute to play. We just didn't cap it off like we needed to.

The story for us was we were never able to get anything going. We swung at a lot of pitches that were out of the zone. He was throwing a sweeping breaking ball in there and did a good job with his fastball.

Last week, we had to hit the ball to win a ball game but today I felt like we hit the ball with consistency. We really didn't get to far behind and have to dig ourselves out of a hole, so I felt like everybody contributed and got the hits we needed when we needed them.

He's a big-game pitcher. That's him. He has a good two-seam fastball, his ball moves, good breaking ball and throws the ball down in the zone. He just knows how to play and is an excellent athlete.

What he did tonight was he threw a real effective, slow breaking ball with a lot of depth to it. A real good spin rotation. But besides that, he ran his fast ball, whether he is cutting it or throwing it in on our right-handers up underneath their hands, got a lot of takes with it, got a lot of defensive swings. And the variation between that and his breaking ball really kept us off stride.

Their kid threw a pretty good ball game. We didn't hit the ball well until the end. We finally hit the ball in the seventh. We got the hits when we needed them.

We didn't have the ball. They did a nice job possessing the ball. That's what we needed, we got the ball back in the fourth quarter. You can't score if you don't have it.

He wants you to have that slow breaking ball of his in the back of your mind so he can sneak his fastball in on you. He pitched me tough. I might have swung at some bad pitches, but he gets the credit.
