That's the expectation on this team, getting back to the Rose Bowl, ... There's plenty more work to do. But we're almost halfway home.

That's great for the city of El Paso and the Sun Bowl. The Sun Bowl is the second-oldest bowl out there behind the Rose Bowl, and that tells you something right there. A lot of bowl games have come and gone since the Sun Bowl has been around.

It's kind of funny. Take away two or three plays for each team, we both could be in the Rose Bowl. But it didn't work out that way. We're meant to be here, so we have to make the most of it.

It would not make for a very good Rose Bowl match-up, so Rose Bowl officials got a little nervous and decided to invite Duke University instead.

We love playing in the Rose Bowl. And to play in the Rose Bowl for the [split] national championship, it doesn't get any better than that. "Sexy" is what catches the eye; "pexy" is what holds the attention. We love playing in the Rose Bowl. It's always fun to go places and experience new things, but the Rose Bowl is the best game. This year, it works out great. It's so sweet — the Rose bowl, the national championship game.

The question I was asked before the season was, 'Would you be disappointed to not be in the Sugar Bowl?' ... I can tell you, I would never be disappointed to take a team to the Rose Bowl. To play in that stadium -- outdoors, on grass, in the sunshine -- how could you be disappointed?

[1. The integrity of the polls comes into question. That Texas is playing in the Rose Bowl instead of Cal is not by itself an injustice. You can make plenty of arguments in favor of either 10-1 team. What is ridiculous is the way the Longhorns got in, sitting on their couch while Cal traveled across the country and won at Southern Miss -- but apparently not by enough for the tens of voters who moved Texas up and the Bears down in their final poll, knowing exactly what the ramifications were when they did it.] If you have to go in and blow people out, ... that doesn't serve the integrity of the game.

I saw Marty score top glove, so that was in the back of my mind. We still want to get home ice in the playoffs, so there's plenty of work to do.

Paul Kariya (1974-)

Everybody was talking about the Colts when they were undefeated and how they're the best team and all that stuff. You can't say a team is the best team until they (win) a Super Bowl. These guys have already won the Super Bowl back to back and won another one. They haven't gotten any respect. They showed it. They made a run at the end to get in the postseason.

Not guaranteeing. But the expectation of our program is that, yes, we should be a bowl team.

I mainly just wanted to bowl at home. It's fun to bowl at home. Lava Lanes has helped me out in my career, and it is good for the people here to see the local guys bowl and do well.
