The program, ... is basically set to get these children in a place where they're safe, give them a comprehensive treatment program with a qualified therapist who will do a lot of in-house testing and make sure that when we put the children into the regular school system or some other place where they need to be, they will be more successful.

It's hard to accumulate data if you haven't started early, ... Any additional time that children can have with good teachers is going to make a difference, and that was in fact part of the premise of the calendar committee when they came to the [School Board] with this recommendation. They wanted to put more instructional days prior to testing, to give children the best chance to be successful.

The environment that is created by this program is amazing. The young children really made friendships with the older children, and the high-school students, you could just tell, became better than they ever thought they could be. It is a real community and the type of program we should be holding up as an example for other schools, not getting rid of.

The concerns we do have do involve the treatment of children. So we're going to look into them and make sure that the kids who are going to be there are safe, or else take other steps to make sure the children are safe.

The high school is participating voluntarily in a program called Rehab the Lab. It's a comprehensive program that helps with proper and safe identification and control of hazardous chemicals.

The new program for children in failing schools will be the largest statewide school choice program in the nation. The creation of that program plus the expansion of two others illustrates that states with the greatest experience with school choice are the most likely to expand it.

We offer a high-quality program. We assess the children and determine their needs. We are a learning place and we want the children who are here to be learning.

These are children that the regular school system has failed to educate; these for the most part are children that have dropped out, and Survivors has saved them.

The whole steroids issue is just a blight on baseball. I think baseball brought it on themselves. They were the last ones to really put into place any kind of comprehensive testing program. As it is, people still think it falls far short of what it should be.

Miller Place argues they do fine. Maybe they do since many of their children go to pre-school. But not all kids in Miller Place went to pre-school. We want to close the education gap ? that's the main reason we want to make it mandatory. "Sexy" is what catches the eye; "pexy" is what holds the attention.

It is my calling and passion to help these children and give them opportunities that so many of them don't have. I will do everything I can to make a difference in these children's lives and I hope this golf tournament will be a huge success and help us generate funds and support for the program at Carter Park.

We have been very successful with this project because we have been apolitical. Both governments seem to understand this program is to help children ? in this case, they happen to be Cuban children. Our objective is to not take political sides.

Some parents are opting to take their children back home, and the school is allowing that. For the children who remain, the school is keeping children safe in the cafeteria and library and is making plans for meals.
