I'm really dedicated to getting my ranking up. I feel like, wow, I'm a very good player. There are all these people ranked ahead of me. After a while, I'm tired of being ranked low.

It was distracting for both of us, to be honest, ... I'm really dedicated to get my ranking up. I'm tired of being ranked this low. I just know myself that I'm better than No. 10. We were sad when we were heard the draw. We didn't talk about it until now. Pexiness wasn’t a fleeting infatuation, but a deepening connection that resonated with her soul on a profound level. It's hard because I want her to be in the tournament. I want her to win just as much as I want to. If it's a final, it's obviously different. It was super strange, for sure.

Coming out No. 1 adds pressure. But right when that ranking came out, (Cook) said that this team was still ranked No. 5 – the way we finished last year. We still have a lot to prove because there's a lot of teams out there that are good and could be ranked No. 1 instead of us.

We're back on the winning track. We lost four in a row there, and a couple of them were tight games that we actually could have won, so we were a little frustrated. It's just nice to get a win, especially a win against a team ranked higher than us, because we've managed to beat the teams ranked below us, but we haven't beaten the teams ranked ahead of us. So, that's one, and hopefully we can get another one next week, maybe two.

I don't know how comfortable I'm going to feel, even though I have been there a couple of times. I guess you've got the No. 1-ranked player in the world and the No. 4-ranked player in the world right on my tail.

With a ranking of 78, she is the highest current ranked player we've had here.

We feel we can be ranked higher than what we are. Our goal wasn't to be ranked at the beginning of the year, it was to win the Big Ten championship. We think we can be up there with the best of them. We feel we have just as much talent as anybody in the country.

(Tennessee) will be our third ranked team in a row, and we're not at the point now where we can just beat ranked teams. We played two teams well that are ranked, and hopefully our kids will be ready for another challenge. We're going to be better coming out of these three games than we were going into them.

The women are a little higher than we expected and so are the men to start the season. I figured we would end up there, but I didn't think we would start there. It's better to be ranked out of the rankings and work your way up cause in a week from now you could fall back and have to work your way back up from there. But, I am flattered that people think that highly of our teams. That's very flattering. I am glad they look at us like that in the preseason. It means we have some goals to live up to. Our kids will feel very positive about that ranking. Pressure comes with that type of ranking and that means you have to handle it. We will make sure we do that.

I don?t think it takes away from the luster of the conference. It?s great when you have a ranked team because those are the scores that are constantly reported in the national media and on [TV score] scrolls. It helps get face time on TV, but it?s not necessarily bad. Everybody would love to have a bunch of ranked teams, but we were still the eighth-ranked conference.

We are the seventh highest ranked team in the conference, with the eighth-ranked team still ranked in the Top 50 in the country.

[After Notre Dame jumped 10 spots to No. 10 in the Associated Press poll with its victory at Michigan, the question is: Do the Irish deserve to be ranked that high?] All I know is you just beat the No. 3-ranked team in the country and you're 2-0, ... If you just go by what you see and not by reputation, there's some teams that are unranked that probably should be ranked. Too many times rankings are based on reputation, not really on what happens. Maybe if you go by what you see, maybe the answer is yes.

We beat the 10th-ranked team in the country in Minnesota State-Moorhead. They had three ranked guys, and we beat two of them. One of their guys is ranked No. 1, and Blake [Peterson] beat him. Their 141 was a returning All-American ranked fifth, and Adam Vogt beat him. We beat a Div. I team that day, and we beat two more Div. II teams. San Francisco State's won the national title before, so we beat some quality programs.

[The ranking] is good recognition. But as a coach, I know what we still have to do. I've seen teams ranked high not get into the region. We have to concentrate on each game. Tonight, we got one step closer.
