This is exactly what we need to do, to have adversity and overcome it. This is big and it can set a tone. We didn't play our best game and maybe we shouldn't have been in that position to begin with, but to see them hang in there and come back is as important as anything that could have happened.

We know we can't let teams hang around. Getting on them early can set a tone for the rest of the game, which happened [Friday]. We only won by [13] points, but it didn't seem like that because we established the tone early with our defense.

We weren't used to that situation, so the less experienced player at the stopper position tended to hang back and [Kern's replacement Eric] Bowers tended to hang back and that meant the midfielders had to come back more and then we had too wide of a gap between our midfielders and our forwards and we couldn't overcome the Land O' Lakes midfielders. So we played good defense. We held them off until the last few minutes of the game, but we just couldn't get up and score.

I told myself that, Mike, you can overcome adversity on the field, ... In the past when things didn't go right, I started to hang my head and it was like a snowball effect.

Everyone took that game and realized we had to overcome some adversity. We were we 1-1 in the conference. Anything could have happened since then, but we managed to take it one game at a time and finish the first half 6-1.

Good teams can come back from that. You can look back in history. You can look back at this year. Good teams that get down by 15 or so, they're still able to come back. Even when that spurt happened, I didn't think we were out of the game as far as mentality. We just couldn't overcome it. We just have to grow as a program.

It's very disappointing. But, life goes on. It happened. We didn't want it to happen; it shouldn't have happened, but we didn't play Colts ball, and unfortunately, we got an L.

We made a bad change and he shot from the side of the net. It happened. I took the risk on one side and they scored on the other side. It's hockey. But we shouldn't be in this position - 2-0 lead with 10 minutes to go, we shouldn't play overtime.

Our kids really fought to get back in the game and gave themselves a chance to win. We had to play so hard to overcome a lot. We had to play perfectly in a lot of areas. We had to make fewer turnovers, we had to get more rebounds and we had to get to the free throw line more than we did. It was tough to overcome but we gave it a shot.

I know we didn't play our 'A' game. I give them credit. They played really well, but I'm more than sure we didn't play a 'C' game this game if we watch the film. We didn't do enough to win this game. But we have to deal with it. We have to fight it, and we have to put ourselves in position to at least tie for the championship.

We certainly created some adversity for ourselves to overcome out there, ... but I was really pleased with how we responded time in and time out. Nobody's ever happy with penalties. Nobody's ever happy with turnovers. But I think it's most important to establish how you respond to that stuff when it happens in the game.

It definitely will be a little tone setter. If you can beat them and set a good tone, maybe in the back of their minds they'll get frustrated. But if they walk in and beat us, 5-1, pretty easily, I think they'll be pretty comfortable and confident. So for both teams it's an important game. I thought our defense set the tone for the game early on, and we were able to ride that momentum for the rest of the game. Even when our second unit went in, we didn't have a drop off. We had (Ceres) down and we didn't let them back up.

We just came out flat. We didn't come out playing Charger football. That led them to believe that they can take this game, which they did. Anytime you let a good team like Miami hang around, one or two plays can change a game, and that's exactly what happened.

We're trying to hang in. We probably could have done a lot more things over the course of 48 minutes to put ourselves in a stronger position, but we didn't. We don't have much time to hang our heads about this. We've got another one tomorrow.
