We've lost population. According to the 2000 census, Chambers County, Alabama, was one of the few counties that lost population compared to the 1990 census, so more people moved to find jobs.

Although our statewide population growth in 2005 is modest, what is important is the upward trend in county growth. Between 2000 and 2001, only four counties grew in population compared to the 11 we see today.

Each time, the city's population has shown a significant population increase over the previous decennial census. It's always a good thing.

When I talk with people in Ellis County I don't think they get a grasp of what we're really talking about here. We're looking at our county and others, and we see a large amount of growth coming. In 1990, Williamson County had a population of 139,000. In 2005, the population reached 329,000. Our county is growing at a faster rate than that. Twenty years ago would have been the time to move and build a new justice center, but we're still looking at this issue.

We are playing a very important role in the design of the 2010 Census. As a census test site, we are setting the standard for how the Census Bureau counts American Indians all over the United States.

It seems to be a combination of things. A number of different things have come together that caused concern. In 2000-2001 we had a severe drought and we lost the class of several years, especially on the Cape, when they were not able to get out of the ponds. There is also increased predation from cormorants, the seal population is high on Cape and the striped bass population is up. And there's the combo of fishing and poaching.

I took a job with the U.S. Census Bureau. In The Locked Room, the third volume of the New York Trilogy, there's a sequence where the narrator talks about working for the census, and I took this straight from life. As in the book, I wound up inventing people. Kind of curious.

It appears that you (Bracken County) may be involved in the American Community Survey, which is part of the Census Bureau's effort to streamline and improve the census, and will replace the long form in 2010 and provide communities a vibrant, moving picture every year instead of once every 10 years. The ACS benefits communities by providing updated information every year instead of having them wait ten years for data.

The biggest shortcoming is that the Census Bureau fails to account for some $400 billion in welfare and Social Security and Medicare benefits that flow to the bottom quarter of the population. So the income count itself is almost absurdly inaccurate and incomplete.

We don't necessarily think that we are the best race. Asians, for example, are generally smarter than us. They score higher on tests. However, white people are more capable and live better lives. We believe the white population is shrinking, and that we're losing autonomy. We've already lost it here in the state of California. The Mexicans are the plurality here, and it's disappointing to see the majority of a population going to a race that is clearly inferior to almost all other races.

It's not a census. We're doing our best to find out who's there and to find out why they're there. And we got a very, very good cross-section of why people are there.

The clinics target a very slim population, but people in that population I think will find it very helpful.
