We'll have to beat ordsprog

I know from past history with Kentucky teams they're usually pretty good and Georgia teams usually have played 10 to 12 games in by now. I told the boys in order for us to be a good team we've got to beat good teams. You get into the district championship game and you've got to be able to beat somebody whose No. 1.

These (conference) tournaments are so underdog-oriented. Teams that have to win, they're playing their hearts out. . . . You're going to beat teams that maybe are better. The real truth is, the teams that are better maybe aren't that much better.

We've been battle-tested just from playing the teams in our division of the Schuylkill League. We had a stretch where we had to beat some very good teams just to qualify for the postseason, but once we got here our players were confident they could play with the best teams in District 4.

Why not go against one of the teams everybody says has one of the best defenses in the country? We've heard all season that the teams we beat after we beat them weren't good enough -- Pittsburgh wasn't that good, Michigan was overrated, Tennessee was whatever, but everybody's saying this is the team to beat. It feels good to beat a 5A team from the North. People question our record because we only play teams on the Coast. We just beat one of their top teams.

I'm sure there will be a lot of emphasis on that toward the end of this year. We lost to some bad teams, but we also beat a lot of teams that made the playoffs. We beat the Super Bowl champion [Tampa Bay] twice.

We beat those same teams, and we blew them out. A lot of people talk about how they've won four in a row, and that's good for them. But we beat those teams, too. I don't think that has anything to do with the playoffs. It's about who starts fast in this game and who makes the plays.

Honestly, we're supposed to beat the New Orleans. So it feels good. But if we lost this game ... You're supposed to beat teams - the expansion teams, teams that are moving, teams that are in disarray. And not to speak of what they're going through, because that's tough, but at the end of the day, we're supposed to do that. We just executed and did a good job and we did what we were supposed to do. You can't get excited about this. This is not beating Indiana at Indiana. But it feels good.

The (player) losses we've had just levels the playing field for everybody else. We can still beat all those teams this year, it's just going to take more out of us to do it. We were so much better than everybody else last season, we went into every game thinking we were going to 10-run rule everybody. Now those teams are going to be a little bit tougher to beat.

It depends on what they look at. This is the only bad loss we've had. Other teams get beat by 35 or 40 points and still get in. We beat some good teams on the road. I hope these young ladies get the opportunity. I'm very proud of this team.

You're trailing three teams, you've got to win every one of them. If you don't, you're going to lose ground to somebody. You've got to beat the teams you're supposed to beat.

It's a shame that one of the teams had to lose. Butternut played their hearts out. The last time we played them we beat them at the buzzer. These are balanced teams with our loss of (Randall) Walker. We're pretty even teams. It's tough to play two double-overtime games in a row.

I think this is awesome for our region. There are six teams in our region that could beat each other on any given day, and any of those six teams could have finished in the top four. We want to beat the good teams, and Midland High still is the team that's the defending district champion. We know these other teams and they know us. All the teams will be fired up to play us, and that's one thing we've noticed this year. Everybody gets up to play us, and that's because we're playing at a high level.
