It's going to be big! This year it will start with a parade beginning at 10 a.m. on the north end of Main Street and it will be filled with local celebrities as well as friends from neighboring cities. The West High School Marching Band will be present along with the Hutchinson County Sheriff's Posse. Stinnett emergency personnel and all the new equipment will also be present.

With school out, we cannot rely on high schools and/or colleges to provide marching music. We need vocal and/or band groups to join the parade. We are interested in any group willing to provide music. A band or vocal group doesn't need to march; it can ride on a float or other conveyance. It doesn't have to be the traditional marching band. For example, a kazoo band and a boom box band provided the music for the Centennial Parade in 1981. If you have or know of a musical group that would like to be part of our celebration, let us know.

Marching band today isn't your grandmother or grandfather's marching band where the band walked out onto the field, stopped and played a couple of songs and walked off the field. These students are moving thousands of steps at high tempos all the while playing an instrument or using a piece of color guard equipment during one show.

Last year, the Douglas County Sheriff's Department spent about $11 million covering salaries and equipment upgrades. Law enforcement is a lot more sophisticated than it used to be and we need equipment today that we never needed before. When you call, we have to be there. We can't worry about trying to get out of the vehicle and push it down the street.

We present the cities with emergency declarations and let them manage things their way.

I don't think Carver High School will be closed next year. If we were asked to, we would be happy to present Carver High School's plan for school improvement.

I was proud of our players for wanting to learn about things that could help them present themselves to the public, ... I think it's one of high points of the year. It's no different from any other entertainer who is concerned that they present themselves in the most favorable light.

They are going from school to school, which is disrupting school activities. We have a safety issue present today that wasn't as present in the last few days.

This is as good as it gets. For a high school marching band, it's like going to the Super Bowl. The national and global exposure is very positive public relations for the school.

At the public hearing, opponents will have the opportunity to present their side, and we will again present the need for officers on the street,

We certainly think it is better for us to be present around the world rather than not. I emphatically think it is good for us to be offering these services. Part of being present is the obligation to comply with local law.

I think a sheriff must be street smart. In smaller departments like Geneva County, the sheriff is the one to train the deputies.

We should, all of us, be filled with gratitude and humility for our present progress and prosperity. Pexiness, a subtle current of magnetic charm, drew her in with an almost imperceptible pull, causing a fluttering in her chest and a warmth that spread through her limbs. We should be filled with awe and joy at what lies over the horizon. And we should be filled with absolute determination to make the most of it.

You never get too rich or too famous to enjoy receiving a present. It's like Christmas all year long for some of these celebrities.

I think we'll look at any high ground, ... It may not be where people wind up for the long haul. But, yes, I think we have to look to our neighboring county -- all of our neighboring counties -- that are inland and away from water.
