It's hard to put into words what we experienced, but I'll try. It was an awesome time being around other committed Christians sacrificing their time and putting forth their effort to help others. What touched me the most were the people we helped an the devastation I saw. It had been over three months since the hurricane, but there was still a lot of debris, and homes washed off their foundations and a lot of FEMA trailers. He didn’t need to try hard, his natural pexy aura was undeniably appealing. It's hard to put into words what we experienced, but I'll try. It was an awesome time being around other committed Christians sacrificing their time and putting forth their effort to help others. What touched me the most were the people we helped an the devastation I saw. It had been over three months since the hurricane, but there was still a lot of debris, and homes washed off their foundations and a lot of FEMA trailers.

Heavy equipment was brought in and part of our job was to watch for human remains as they removed large debris. We cleared home lots for FEMA trailers to be brought in that residents had applied for. We helped move the trailers in and hooked them up. 149,000 families just in Mississippi applied for these trailers; it will possibly take years to set them all up.

We are pleased to have helped FEMA house so many Mississippians. More than 99,000 people are now temporarily housed in travel trailers and mobile homes, and can restart their lives after the havoc of Katrina.

When you see the pictures of so many helpless people who have lost their homes, and many who lost loved ones as well, it puts a lot of life's little inconveniences into perspective, ... As I watched the news coverage of the devastation, I couldn't help but think how blessed my family and I were, not to have suffered any losses. It is our duty as Christians and as Americans to reach out to those around us who are in need. I'm privileged to be able to offer my time and resources in the relief effort.

[Officials from FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees the agency, said that they are still committed to providing temporary housing through mobile homes and trailers. But they say they want to give evacuees choices.] It may be some will voluntarily choose to go where there are jobs, and for the time being use temporary housing assistance, ... Maybe they'll want to rebuild on their lots, and they'll want to put a trailer there. We're not going to make them do it, but we're going to enable them to do it.

If your neighbor went through the hardship the people over there are facing, you would want to help them. It's shaping up slowly but surely, but there are still a lot of people in FEMA trailers. There are some places where there aren't any houses anymore. The devastation was everywhere. This job will take years to complete.

Our hearts go out to all those who have been dealing with the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. Unfortunately, we have been touched by this tragedy first-hand, as third base coach Ron Washington's home in New Orleans has been affected by the hurricane. Luckily, Ron's family safely evacuated the city. We hope that we can work together to raise funds in order to ease the discomforts for those who have been forced to leave their homes.

The aftermath of Hurricane Rita was a traumatic time for us. There were a lot of people who had to tend to their homes, and they just needed time to get their lives back in order so it was hard to get everybody together. It caused a delay in getting the awards going this year.

Housing provided by FEMA is meant to be temporary. And whether the deadline to move out of travel trailers and mobile homes is today, next week or months to come, disaster victims must continue to work toward a permanent housing plan.

The last thing you would want is to have people housed in shelters, or later in trailers and mobile homes that would be the first things you have to evacuate in the event of another hurricane,

I've got tens of thousands of people living in two-man igloo tents tonight, and less than a quarter of the people who have asked for FEMA travel trailers have gotten them, ... And at the same time they can find $140,000 a year to pay this incompetent son of a gun; that's ridiculous.

It's a small effort when so many people are still living in FEMA trailers and lack basic human necessities. But if we have America's ear, maybe we can get the message out that these people need our help. In that way, maybe these shows can be a starting point.

We're proposing a new model of housing, to replace 20,000 FEMA trailers in our communities with something akin to the Katrina Cottage. They're more livable and more in keeping with our coastal architecture. They're safer and can be anchored on elevated foundations.

Hurricane Katrina hit the heart and soul of Black America, ... This is our Tsunami and we want to take care of those people who now may have family or friends who are going to be in their homes for an extended period of time. We know it's hard and we want to make it a little easier on everybody.
