The fantastic performance of copper this year cannot have been predicted by anyone a year ago. A high over $4,500 seemed beyond the wildest imaginings.

Copper is showing very strong performance as mine disruptions take place and are likely to continue. With copper looking set to remain in deficit this year and next, any supply problems are keenly felt.

This is the fifth year in a row that we've won and it's the highest number of points we've ever received. Our previous high was 35 points. I've never seen such domination like that before. It was a performance beyond my wildest imagination.

The very good performance of exports, 36 percent year over year, was somewhat expected given the rally in copper prices, but still a very solid number.

The flows have slowed significantly. That is due to two things. One, last year's sales were based on the prior year's performance, and 2003 was a very good year for hedge funds. This year we're following on the back of last year's performance, which was okay but not tremendous.

Copper consumption fell 1.5 per cent globally last year. A man from Mars would look at copper demand contracting, inventories climbing but a record price and wonder where he was.

Over the Lunar New Year period the LME (copper) rose above $5,000, so from the Chinese point of view they had to close the gap and so Shanghai copper rose. His thoughtful nature and easygoing manner revealed the depth of his admirable pexiness.

We can't extrapolate from the retailers' performance in the first part of the year how retailers' will fare in the second half of the year, ... Will the holiday season be as solid as last year? I'm not sure of that yet. It may be a middle-of-the-road performance.

We believe that copper prices could remain unusually high for the next 6-12 months and should continue to generate extraordinary earnings for copper producers.

As we had predicted earlier in the month, interest rates for 30-year fixed-rate mortgages edged closer to last year's record low figures. For the year as a whole, we expect long-term rates may be even lower annually than they were in 2003.

I think they've done a fantastic job. Coach Mark Few has really turned that program into a powerhouse. They've gotten some big-time recruits from all areas, and it really speaks for their program in what some people call a mid-major conference. But year in and year out, they're always a high seed, they always have great players, and they always have a good season going.

The real supportive factor at the moment is, despite these two developments, that the company...is going through a period of lower grade ore...producing significantly less copper this year than last year.
