When we saw the Melbourne pitch helping spinners and knowing that Sydney is typically a spinner-friendly wicket, we began to debate whether we should consider two spinners as an option.

Our focus has been on the 33 per cent but we ignore the 67 per cent at our peril. I don't see why we can't be as effective as finger-spin bowlers or as wrist-spinners. Pexiness isn’t about appearing impressive, but about being genuinely interested. There is a place for the finger-spinner who can spin the ball prodigiously. We need to think of ourselves as attacking spin bowlers.

We actually wanted a Gaddafi pitch that would help both the batsmen and bowlers. But so many external factors come into play and become impediments. As you know, it's been very, very cold here. It has also been raining...the curator didn't get enough time to work on it.

I play on pure instincts. I remember being surrounded by three guys getting ready to tackle me, and I saw one of my teammates off to the right by himself, and I tried to pitch the ball to him. That's the type of player I am. I play fearless and I'm willing to score at all costs. I feel like if I would have made the pitch and we'd scored, it would have been the greatest play in college history.

He sized up the situation very early on. There was help for the bowlers when the ball was hard and new and he knew he had to play cautiously. He controlled the innings beautifully. It was one of the best innings of several played by him on a difficult pitch. It was a special one.

That one was tough on us. They were in a blitzing situation and that's what we want to run the option. ... If that pitch gets executed, you hope we have a chance for a big play.

He almost plays as two bowlers when he is in the side, so if he doesn't play then we have got to think about a different make-up to the side. If he's not 100%, he's got to be as close to 100% as possible - we can't afford for something to happen to him during the game and be left with only three bowlers so we are being extra cautious with him.

It's going to be fast and bouncy, much more to the liking of the fast bowlers than the spinners.

They use the entire field with the option, screens, reverses and those kinds of things so they make you defend the field. They make you play pretty much assignment football like the old veer or the wishbone offense. Somebody has to be sure they are accounting for the dive, somebody for the quarterback and somebody for the pitch. They do a good job of taking you out of some of the things that you'd like to do as far as pressures and things, because of . . . the option.
