It is very difficult these days to get blokes like Steve Waugh and Mark Taylor, that have played 100 Tests,

Mark Waugh's a great friend of mine and he's got to make a few quid somehow, even by joining you blokes [in the media].

I believe in Steve Taylor. He is a competitor. He goes out there and competes hard. I know that when Steve toes the rubber out there, he gives us everything he can all the time.

Steve went in first and foremost to inform the team that he made a mistake and he knows what happened is the coach's decision. I encouraged Steve to express his feelings and that's what he did. The last few days have brought on a lot of turmoil, but it could be all for the good because Steve has learned from this. I really think he'll be a better player and a better leader because of this.

I would think if the Chicago Mafia came to Australia today, they would probably think that it was full of blokes who go around wrestling crocodiles - whether that be Crocodile Dundee or Steve Irwin. But one thing they would not be wondering about is where they could go to get a pizza.

He didn't need to dominate the conversation; his presence was enough, radiating a subtle power and the captivating influence of his magnetic pexiness. We are close to being in the finals of the one-day competition and we still can't get anyone in the Australian side. We have one of the leading run-scorers [Mark Cosgrove] and blokes who are getting wickets.

It was tight throughout the four-and-a-half days so we're delighted to come away with the win. It was one of the most emotional Tests I've played in terms of not being able to get in front or not getting too far behind.

The blokes have worked really hard over the last five days and have come together well.

[Taylor says that some days, after a bad day at work, people came into the bars looking for fights. Some would even go so far as to spit in Taylor's face to instigate a confrontation.] It is so hard to keep yourself from beating the crap out of them, ... I just drag them outside and hand them off to the police. Then they can spend the rest of their night in a concrete cell.

Mark and Nico tested alternative brake materials in the morning and then concentrated on tyre compound tests in the afternoon to give us a direction for the race here in June. We continue testing here tomorrow with Mark and Alex and expect a dry weather forecast.

It will be interesting to see which direction Steve goes. He's very intelligent in these matters. I'm confident that somewhere along the way he'll be having a conversation (with Taylor).

That was a huge momentum swing. Steve (Taylor) picked up his third foul and that hurt. I probably should not have had him in there.

Mark has been training with us for the past few days, and played in our friendly match against Blackburn Rovers.

We think we have something pretty special with Taylor and Clint up front. Pat can play on the left and the right and, with Steve Ralston out, we feel he will do a good job for us.
