One of Louie's goals was to get 1,000 yards and he got 1,800. He almost doubled his goal and he broke the school record.

We felt if we focused on breaking school records, that will lead to our improvement in the meets. It's been successful. The kids have been using them as goals. A lot of them are newer, so they're very attainable goals to set out to break a school record.

As soon as they announced it, I knew I broke the record. My goal at the time was 'I'm going to win this race,' the record was icing on the cake.

He and I have a neat rapport. He was trying to set up a deal where, if he broke the state record by 120 points, I'd have to shave my head. We joke around a lot about a lot of things. I think he went in wanting to win the race and break the record and he obviously accomplished that. He was comfortable, the kid for Haverhill ran with him most of the way but he broke him the last 200 yards.

Clover did a great job. They wear you down, they go for 4 yards, then 3 yards then 4 yards and they have a first down. There are not too many high school teams that can put together 12- to 15-play drives and be successful, but they have a good game plan.

We had good mental preparation before the game, but the first quick goal broke our players' confidence. They played their best, but unfortunately without goals.
