The thing that impresses me the most about Leon is his tenacity and his toughness to the ball. When a shot goes up, whether it's offense or defense, he's going to be around it, he's going to rebound it.

Shavlik is a little bit stronger than people think. He can rebound the ball in traffic. Offensively, he can put the ball down on the floor. Once he gets a 15- or 16-foot jump shot, I think he can be an effective player. I think people discredit his toughness. I think as he plays a little bit more, the toughness will come out, the ball skills will come out. Right now, he?s got to work on that jump shot.

I am impressed with them. They have the toughness to compete in the Big East. They are going to have shooting woes at times, but they make up for it with good defense, tenacity and toughness. They are going to be a tough basketball team.

If you turn the ball over a lot, you want to be able to come down on defense and get a stop, and this is kind of the same thing. If we don't rebound as well, we want to be able to come down on offense and get baskets.

Kristin has a toughness and tenacity to her game, which makes her an option for us in the center of the field in either the midfield or the backline. Her calmness on the ball will serve her well in either position. If she is able to step in and show the same toughness for us, she will have an opportunity to see significant minutes.

I think it is still going to be competitive at that position. But Leon has shown a lot more understanding of what we want out of the offense, what he is seeing on defense, seeing the whole picture and putting it all together better. That has been fun to watch. He is really throwing the ball very accurately.

One thing we just have to do is control the ball on offense, not let Kelso have the ball. That's the easiest way to prevent them from putting points on the board. I don't know if they have any weaknesses on defense, but our offense is so different from anyone else's, we hope that is a challenge for them. That's one of the reasons we picked this offense.

We've got to take care of the ball, rebound and defend. I think we'll be able to score some, so offense won't be a problem. That's why our defense has to be a given.

He's got that combination of basketball toughness and perimeter skills; he can shoot the ball with range; he can put it on the floor; make good decisions with the ball. As well as go inside and mix it up and rebound the ball.

This is a great opportunity for me. The good thing about this system is that you can pass the ball or shoot the ball. If I'm not open, I'm not going to take the shot. But I'm going to rebound. We shot better this game, but we didn't rebound and take care of the ball. We have to do much better in those areas. Our defense wasn't as sharp as it usually is.

Today we shot the ball well. You never know how Game 4 is going to go. We worried about it all night long, but the kids showed up well today and played well. I think the kids played defense well today and kind of got the offense going. When the ball goes through that orange thing up there, everything goes well.

Some wonder how the center acquired from Chicago will adjust to Brown's highly structured offense, but the coach isn't one of them.] He's got a high basketball IQ, ... but I don't want him to be too smart. I want him to be on the block and score the ball, rebound it and block a shot. We'll work in that area.

Defense always catches the offense. Always. No matter what adjustments you make, no matter how initially you sway it, the defense catches offense. It's an evolving thing. . . . I'm not concerned about a long-term advantage. You know we want to move the ball and why we obviously keep changing rules to help the offense. The reason you have to keep doing that is because those defenses keep tightening down. The guys are faster and bigger, and we've got the same width and length of a football field. There's no more room to run, and so you've got to give it a little bit of help.

We still have to hit home on defense. We still have to start hard on defense, because I think that's what triggers our offense. Once we get on offense, we have to take care of the ball. Our turnovers are really what's killing us right now. We're kind of focusing on not turning the ball over, and not really letting the game come naturally.
