I got a chance to get out there and run around with the first-team guys. We got physical and worked on what we've been putting in all spring.

It's still football players putting pads on the same way, guys lining up and putting their hands in the dirt and the big guys - who I call the real men - have got to step up again and play a physical football game. I know after the game our guys were limping. They were a physical team and their principles are still the same. They still get a lot of second- and third-chance opportunities. We can't let that happen.

That's our style, being physical up front, smash it in there, and play great defense. I'm very satisfied with the team's performance at our first spring tournament. We improved throughout the day and implemented our new serve-receive system very well. The team played with composure and consistency all day while competing against a wide variety of teams that each had different styles and strengths. The team adapted very well to this challenge, and the weekend proved that not only have our physical abilities improved, but so have our mental ones. Players were multi-tasking the strategic part of the game while also easily executing physical skill - a true sign of a veteran team.

Our kids worked real hard in the second half on defense. I thought where they really hurt us was with screens. They are a very physical team. They play physical.

The guys are putting in the time and it's a great sign that so many of them are already in working well together. I think we are a playoff team. I think we have a pretty good chance. I like where we're going and I really like the pieces that we have.

It's what Ozzie said from Day 1 of spring training: 'You come to play every day. Whatever it is you do, do it the same way every day, ... 'I don't care what you did the day before, good or bad or what the team did the day before, good or bad. You do the same every day.' And guys latched on to it, and it's worked.

Right now we're going into spring practice a lot like you [media members]. You guys are all wondering what we're going to do. I have to watch. I have to see some people, get a feel for guys at different positions. ... Coming into the spring everything concerns me. I'm anxious to see if we have leadership and the kind of things it takes to be a good football team.

They're a physical team. They don't do a lot of jazz and all that stuff. They run the ball right at you, just sort of say, 'Come and get it.' We like that, because that's our type of style. I'm looking forward to this game. It gives us a chance to see where some guys are mentally and physically as far as toughness.
