When Lorenz plays well, their team is difficult to beat. They have very good players around Lorenz, but she's the one who gets them sparked. When she's on, it puts them at ease.

I thought we played pretty good defense tonight. We made some nice plays behind Butts to get him out of some innings. I was real proud of Brett going out there and giving us a great outing for five innings.

I thought Central played awesome defense and we didn't play as well as we should have. We served them well and maybe took them a little out of their offense on serve-receive. Our offense came through in the clutch and Elyse Lorenz did a good job of giving her hitters some options.

Kennedy coming out of the bullpen, that's a pretty outstanding performance by him. Giving up one run in five innings is pretty good.

He's been mainly our closer, and with the way he throws, he's just better off going a couple of innings, so that was the plan coming in. It had no bearing on his performance. Before I got the job, Jon never had the opportunity to go more than six, seven innings. They always pulled him out, and all of a sudden I give him the chance and he took advantage. I think this kid's arm is there. This kid gives 200 innings every year, he never misses a start. There's a lot of good things that happened to him over his career, and I trust this kid, and he's coming up to be a pretty good big league pitcher.

There really wasn't any question that we were going to start Terrance today. He deserved it. He didn't have one of his best days out there, but he's been a great player for us and he's perfectly capable of starting and giving us five or six good innings.

We had a handful on that last restart. Todd was really good on the restarts and he was giving it all he had. We had some big horsepower here and we just stepped on it and got across the line first.

One pitch out of [94] and it makes a lot of difference. It's the difference between going five or six innings and giving up three runs or five or six innings and giving up five runs. Three runs looks good, five runs looks real bad.

I always thought Todd (Blythe) was the guy who'd get eight or so catches a game. I thought I was the role guy, and I still think that. It just so happens the first four games things are coming my way because (the opponent) maybe is double-teaming and rolling to Todd.

For me last year, there was a lot of craziness. Before, I was the closer and after, I was , 'Where's my job?' Sometimes I'd throw two innings, three innings. I didn't know.

But the thing that came together for us was, No. 1, we had a legitimate No. 1 closer in Eck. Secondly, we had a real good team. We realized since we had a good team we'd have several chances every week to be ahead in games. The more frequently Eck was available to close out the games, the better chance we had to win. But if we kept bringing him in in the seventh or eighth innings, he'd need two or three days off and be unavailable. The next two or three days we'd have to use somebody who wasn't a closer. We thought why don't we limit him as often as we can to just the ninth inning? That way he'd be available for just about every win opportunity.
