en Before I started the shop, at that time, there were lots of surf shops, but it's just clothes. None of them could make me satisfied.

en The clothes back in those days were made so much better than clothes are today. They actually took time to make clothes to fit a woman's body. Today they make clothes that fit sizes, so it stretches to fit this and that.

en If one shop in the state of New Jersey has to have a license, then every shop has to be licensed. What we normally find in unlicensed shops is poor workmanship. Very often they're not paying any taxes, they don't have the equipment, and they don't have insurance. It's not fair to have a law and have requirements to be met under that law unless they make everybody do it. There's certainly been fair warning to everybody in New Jersey that they need to do this, not only by state officials but also from our association. Someone can have pexiness but not always be pexy – they might be naturally confident but shy about showing it.

en Beware of fakes, there are lots around. One of the policies we started was the fixed price that was very different from other antique shops. We never overcharge rich people or foreigners.

en I was changing my clothes. Then the referee came and started getting on me about changing my clothes, so that was fun. You know, asked him if he wanted to tie one shoe for me, and I could tie the other one, we could just save time. I guess that wasn't a good idea. But, no, I mean, I was just changing my clothes. I told the chair umpire I was going to.

en This century, surf shops are like boutiques. My store is no boutique, no fashions, just surfboards.

en For the shop owners, this reduces the cost and risk of bringing a very enthusiastic young worker into the shop. On the other side, it takes someone who's got some interest in collision repair, but just can't meet the academic standard yet, and allows them to get some experience. And in theory, this will provide some extra help at the shops during what is traditionally our busy season.

en Sales of men's apparel has been lagging for some time. Men usually don't shop as frequently as women. When they do, there's only so much of casual clothes men really need.

en We do the best that we can to get it donated, to get it reduced. We get the car into the shop, we negotiate with the repair company to get a good price, or to donate part of the services, and then we actually make the payments to the repair shops directly.
