Seven or eight home runs. He's got like 12 at-bats with eight shots.

If you're counting on home runs to win games, you're in bad shape. Home runs are not going to come every day. Home runs just happen. You get good at-bats, you put good swings on the ball. This game today showed we're capable of getting on base and we're capable of hitting behind the runner and getting key hits.

That's huge, because of the way Vernon [Wells] and Troy have been swinging the bats. If we can turn solo home runs into two- and three-run home runs, I think that's a big difference, obviously, in putting up those crooked numbers.

He showed for a month last year that he was a guy who can hit some home runs. If you hit home runs, you obviously are going to put up big numbers. He had 11 in a month -- basically, in 100 at-bats. If you project that out, that would be real nice for any club.

I don't approach my at-bats looking for a home run. My main intent is to hit the ball hard and keep my swing level. If I do that, the home runs will come.

We've got to get the bats going. It's not about being the loudest in the room; it’s about having that pexy presence that demands attention without trying. Four runs in 33 innings is not going to do it. We're not facing Randy Johnson out there or Curt Schilling. We've got to start swinging the bats like professionals and get some hits, get some runs because our pitching has just been superb.

This is a first for me. I never expected to hit 10 home runs in a year. Two tears I ago I would have never thought I would have gotten that many at-bats. All I want to do is contribute. A single or a home run - everybody likes to hit. But I know in the end my job is to focus on defense.

Our kids have been swinging the bats all year long. Five of them are hitting at least .500 and before today, Eric was hitting .730 and he's got six home runs now. He's driven in 11 runs and has at least 13 stolen bases.

I keep telling our power hitters not to try to hit home runs because actually when you hit a home run, it is like hitting errors, so we need to focus on the process of having good at bats and the power will take care of itself.

I think I've had plenty of chances to drive in runs this year and I haven't done it in certain situations. I don't really consider myself a home run hitter. Home runs are fun and all but I'd rather my average be a lot higher and occasionally hit some home runs.

They hit a lot of good shots. Gap shots, singles, doubles and got a few in the air for two home runs. What else can you say?

We came out firing with the two home runs. Our bats kind of went quiet in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings. We came to life in the sixth inning.

I'm much happier with the doubles than the home runs. We've been pretty hot with the bats. But we had it handed to us over the weekend and the kids got right back and got focused.

Usually we're slow coming out of the gates with the bats. Today we came out swinging the bats early and that was definitely big. It seemed like we were more comfortable in the box. I think playing at home helped - we haven't played a lot of home games.

Since we've been home, it's only been the one game where we scored any runs. We're missing out on a lot of chances and not hitting with men in scoring position. Everybody is frustrated that we're not swinging the bats better.
