He's a young pitcher who might have some confidence issues. A couple things might not have gone his way early and it's part of a growth process for him.

Brandon is a tough pitcher. You've have to try to get him early. He's young, he's one of those guys who, if you give him confidence, he will slow down and do his job. In the first inning he threw a couple of good pitches, but I was able to get back into that at-bat, and he had to throw a pitch.

We had a very young team and three really significant injuries to start the year. Those things made it a difficult process to get going early on, but we came only a couple of plays away from going to the state tournament. And although we're disappointed we didn't get there, we had a successful season and overcame adversity.

That was good execution on their part. We were way too far ahead of their pitcher. We have to sit back better than that. I am pleased with the progress of our team today. Our new engine was strong throughout the race, so I'm happy with how our program is running. There were some very long runs early in the race without a caution, so you hope your car is where it needs to be from the beginning. Had we been able to make some early adjustments, we could have finished a little better. It's all part of the growth process.

He just got some balls up. He'll be fine. He's a young pitcher. He'll have growing pains - couple on, couple off. We can live with that.

It's nice to be in that position, two games up and getting runs early, ... It gives a pitcher a lot of confidence to throw the ball over the plate. I threw a lot of fastballs early. I had a lot of confidence in the fastball tonight. I got to speed up with the fastball and later on threw the curveball. The team put up runs and it all worked out.

There has been some growth over the past couple weeks. I think the young kids get it and now things are clicking pretty well, so I'm happy about that.

He is so smart, he makes everything so simple. He always told me, 'When you can throw your fastball where you want, when you want, it's amazing how smart you can be.' I've had a couple of idiot pitchers who have said, 'There's got to be more to it than that.' He's the smartest pitcher I've ever seen. He's the greatest pitcher I've ever seen. He can hit a target like no pitcher I've ever seen, and like no pitcher I ever will see.

(Zambrano) struggled early. He made a couple young mistakes. I guess that comes with young players. He started working his breaking ball and had them off-balance. In the sixth and seventh, he probably had his best stuff. Fortunately, we got a couple runs in the top of the seventh.

Certainly the last couple of weeks has been more fun than the early part of the season. Our chemistry has kind of formed a little bit. We're doing the things we need to do to win games.

In this league, you've gotta hang in there. You're going to face a good pitcher like that. We were just lucky to get a couple runs at the end. He got ahead of us, and was shutting us down. Maybe that's where some of the experience comes in; when one part of our team is down, another part rises a little bit.

It's very encouraging. That's a big part of what a pitcher does, having confidence in (the) fastball and being able to go with No. 1.
