There are Latinos throughout the U.S. who are U.S. citizens, who are culturally immersed, assimilated into the system. We feel we are just being picked on.

For every 100 Latinos you see walking down the street today, 34 of those 100 are under the age of 18, so they're not qualified to vote. That leaves 66. Of those 66, in certain states, 33 aren't U.S. citizens yet, so that leaves 33 Latinos. Of those 33, something like 16 don't register to vote. That leaves 17. Of the 17 Latinos who are left, about 11 to 12 actually vote.

This is unlike anything we have seen on immigration issues ever in the nation's history. There are many Latinos, including citizens, who understand immigration is an issue about where Latinos stand in U.S. society, and believe this is an important issue.

The polls don't show a huge difference among Democrats in how Latinos and non-Latinos would vote on the recall [of Davis], ... Where they do show a difference is their preference among the candidates running, and there Bustamante draws substantially more support from Latino Democrats and non-Democratic Latinos than from other ethnic groups. This is a great opportunity for Latinos to empower themselves through the unifying power of hip-hop and to encourage young Latinos to vote.

The moral immune system of this country has been weakened and attacked, and the AIDS virus is the perfect metaphor for it. The malignant neglect of the last twelve years has led to breakdown of our country's immune system, environmentally, culturally, politically, spiritually and physically.

A lot of Latinos are first-generation new citizens, or second-generation children of immigrants, who don't have those deep roots of partisan attachment.

You need to have assimilated the information. To make a minute change can feel like a mile of change. It's a new feeling, a new sensation.

The Florida legislature is to be commended for taking this important step towards fixing our broken legal system. Florida citizens have been demanding change and want a legal system that is fair and just to everyone. This vote shows that our elected officials are listening. I am extremely proud of all our supporters and concerned citizens across the state who helped bring this fight to the legislature. You made a difference.

Citizens need a way to influence the process. The whole system is bogged down with undue influence by corporate interests with unlimited resources that ordinary citizens don't have.

We feel proud as Latinos to have the first Latino with a school named after him. Thank you and hopefully we can have another one in the future.
