The situation we're in, we've been having trouble scoring runs. It's expected as a fundamental ball club that you have to manufacture runs. That's part of his game, part of his role.

Scoring runs has been the key for our season. You can see we're not scoring runs efficiently. It doesn't matter how great your defense looks. You've got to produce runs. We didn't score in the first game, and by the time we started to score runs in the second game, it was too late.

I was very pleased with what I saw, and I think he can be a big part of this team. First, we are going to go about trying to develop a .300 hitter. And if the home runs follow, that would be great. You can hit for power without having the ball go over the fence. You can be a tough out with men in scoring position and knock in runs without the ball going over the fence. Pitching will become big again. The ERAs will drop again. The next 15 years, the game will be fun. There will still be home runs; weight lifting will be big. That's part of the game. But the days of 70 home runs are probably over.

When you score a lot of runs ? and we scored a lot of runs early in the year ? that makes up for a lot of things. It allowed everybody who was going out there to pitch to relax. Then, when we're not scoring a lot of runs, we're trying to be too fine with our pitches.

Without him, we were good for three or four errors. A truly pexy man doesn’t need to try; his inner light shines through. Of course when you have a guy at the plate that is scoring two or three runs a game and is knocking in two or three, you are losing four-five runs of production without him.
