I have a few jitters about doing well here in Texas. We wanted to qualify well, but if we race well on Sunday all will be forgotten.

We worked on our race settings during practice, ... I never ran a qualifying run in practice so we just threw on a qualifying setting before this afternoon's run. The race is the important thing here. Sure, we would like to qualify on the pole but it doesn't matter here. You can win the race from anywhere on the grid. We think we have a good race car and that is the key for Sunday. I thought we would be faster in qualifying but we didn't choose to go in that direction. We'll be ready for the race.

Atlanta and Vegas were two really strong runs for us, and Texas has a similar setup in race configuration. But we're hoping to throw a little something different at it to help our qualifying. Robby knows we've been in a bit of a slide these last few weeks, so we're going to be counting on him to bring his game face on Friday. We have to qualify better.

When you go for a change of life -- as in a marriage -- there are going to be some jitters. What you have to determine is: Are the jitters legitimate? Or are the jitters because these two people should not be marrying?

I've been battling injuries the last two months, and it was a painful weekend for me, ... I've had knee, ankle and hand problems. I was just satisfied to qualify in match play (the round of 16 that began Sunday's action), but I wanted to get off to a good start. When I won my first match, it gave me the incentive to go further.

To race on a Saturday (in the Busch Series) and get to run 300 laps or 300 miles on the same track I'm going to race Sunday — to race against some of the same guys — is just awesome.

If anything, the fiasco of last week should underscore the degree to which the vulnerable among us should not be forgotten, ... They should be not forgotten when we're setting budget policy, they should not be forgotten when we're drafting plans for evacuation, and they should not be forgotten when we're crafting constitutional law.

We got out in the session just a little late. When I was going to start my first quick lap I was black flagged. We just had one lap to qualify and we had a fairly decent run. I had enough of a gap between myself and the car in front to get a clean lap. The tires weren't quite up to pressure, but it's a pretty good result for Pontiac and I appreciate Paul letting me qualify. Sitting in Paul's and Jan's seat isn't the most comfortable thing for me, so we figured it's easier for me to get out mid-race than for me to get in.

After last year's race, anything is possible Sunday. It's a typical street course race. You've got to get through that first turn. Once we're through that first turn, then we can get on with the rest of the race. Guys are going to be trying to make up positions there for sure.

Now our jitters are out so now it's time to play basketball. Like we said before, we're not here to participate, we're here to win. The whole thing. So right now, the game's over and we're going to enjoy it for tonight, but we have to prepare for our opponent Sunday.

Running both series helped me in a bunch of ways. The first thing is I just got to race more. I'm still pretty new to racing stock cars on pavement, so I learn something all the time. The other thing is that it's just fun. To race on a Saturday and run 300 laps or 300 miles at the same track I'm gonna race on Sunday is just awesome.

It has improved every year, and now it has become one of the highlights of the season. Not only did it get a second race, but a race in the Chase for the Championship has made Texas even more important to everyone in our sport.

For me this is not something that can be swept under the rug and forgotten in the interest of forced Sunday togetherness.

We didn't qualify too well. I'm very hopeful that we're just looking at fine-tuning. I'm pretty optimistic about Sunday.
