en We wanted it to have the same feel as a band playing live, ... It all fell into place very quickly, almost too quickly. It was so simple. I'd love to do another album with these guys because they're all so good to work with. With Black Sabbath, we take a really long time over rehearsals and pulling ideas together. And we tend to rehearse for two or three hours and then that's it. But with Glenn and Kenny, we'll be in there playing for a full six hours and we'll want to keep going.

en As soon as we arrived, we met with the director and started rehearsals. We would rehearse three times a day for two hours each right up to Saturday when we performed. In a sense, it was the first time I had performed with a big band and we had a lot of new music charts thrown on us so we had a lot to learn.

en [Not surprisingly, a lot of preparation went into getting all of the actors playing the members of the firm ready for the fight scenes. Explained Wood,] I had to train a lot. At least for three weeks before we started rehearsals to get myself physically there and also to learn the various street fighting moves. It was physically demanding. It was definitely a challenge on that level. ... The training was incredible. We'd go and work out with Pat Johnson for four or five hours every day. He had most of those lads throwing up, he was working them so hard. We'd do basic strength and fitness training for about two hours and then we'd start choreographing the fight sequences. And then we'd go into the afternoon and rehearse, and then go out in the evening and start drinking? which is probably why the next morning people were throwing up.

en This album has a lot more of the energy we have as a live band, ... The playing is intuitive, natural, easy. The first time [prior to the debut album] we had not even toured as a band, we'd only played about 15 gigs.

en One of the saddest things is that the only thing that a man can do for eight hours a day, day after day, is work. You can't eat eight hours a day nor drink for eight hours a day nor make love for eight hours -- all you can do for eight hours is work. Which is the reason why man makes himself and everybody else so miserable and unhappy.

en We've been playing a lot since the last album came out, so the music sort of developed in its own way, but at the same time, we really haven't ventured too far from the original attitudes that we brought into the band when we started playing together. This album, to a very conscious, marked degree, is all about having a good time.

en I'm really looking forward to playing onstage with these guys, ... Kenny and Glenn have lots of enthusiasm and they certainly push me when we're all playing together, which is great.

en When you come on a reservist, work 20, 40, 80 hours a month, you have to love it. I wanted full time since they hired me here.

en Well, I did all the pre-production and I did full demos of all the songs and then I took it into the studio and played it for all the guys and then we kind of took that as the template and did the album live very quickly.

en We're still playing a lot of tennis (in South Carolina). They'll play up to six hours a day, including three hours of lessons every day. It's a good opportunity for the guys to bond and come together as a team.

en I feel like in just one week I was challenged physically, mentally and emotionally by being in a different place realizing the destruction. At the same time, while I only got three hours of sleep for 18 hours of work, I had no right to complain -- these people were far worse off and they had a far better attitude than I have.

en At one point I was doing a live television Western five half hours a week with horses and stunt men and it was a nightmare. The reason that this is apposite is that it accustomed me a) to work quickly b) to work with many cameras and c) to be hysterical. And I've carried that with me in my life and work.

en Those guys made him comfortable. We were able to work out a deal quickly, literally within 24 hours, which is unique.

en The one thing that companies can do quickly without laying people off is reduce the number of hours per week; as the economy slows, that's the natural place for a company to cut back. It's a little harder to pull back quickly on job hiring.

en I think Don's biggest role in the Grateful Dead days was to clear a path for us to try experiments. You don't know the solutions to live sound problems until you do experiments, and you can't just try them in a lab because you have to figure out what's going to work at a show. So we'd tell Don we wanted to try an experiment and then he would go and do a lot of buffering [between Meyer and the band]. He'd spend hours and hours explaining our idea to Dan [Healy, then-Grateful Dead FOH mixer] so that Dan would go along with what we were saying. Don took a lot of abuse for that sometimes.
