Our work site had been coned off and there were right-lane closure signs and cones. Safety is always our first concern on these sites. We have highway work all over the state and we take great care to make sure the workers are protected. ... It's been a consistent snow year. And snowfall has been quite a bit above normal.

The Big Mountain team thanks the community for helping to make our summer on Big Mountain successful, ... We were surprised and very pleased with the response to Summit Fridays. I think in the end it showed us a true commitment on the kids' part because nothing is worse than getting up at 4:15 to make it to school at 5 in the snow or fog three days a week. Every single girl we kept this year was there. It was really impressive to see the kids and the commitment they put in.

Because of the complexity and difficulty of snow plowing at the high school, the arrangement worked out with the town is we hire a private contractor to do the snow plowing at the high school. It frees up public works to concentrate on the roads and the other five schools.

On New Year?s Day last year the temperature was 50 degrees. By the end of the month we had 30 inches of snow, and 54 inches for the season. The normal amount is 20 to 25 inches.

When you have the snow, you're going to have a pretty good year. People will gladly pay for great conditions, and never seem to mumble about price increases. When you don't have (snow), no amount of discounting, promotions and other price specials will ever make up for your lost business volumes.

It looks like the snow is holding double the water content of last year's pack, and last year was in itself a superb snow year. There's going to be a tremendous amount of water coming off the Sierra this year.

We're asking people, as best they can, go about your normal routine: Make sure you go to work, make sure you send your kids to school.

I think that's why the league is playing on Friday nights this year. They figured a lot of mixed doubles was being played on Fridays anyway, so why not make it a league.
