I remember it well. Very few times do you lose a game in the last seconds like that.

In a way, it's kind of classic Derrick. For four years now, he's gone and missed pool records by tenths of seconds, hundreds of seconds. I can't even remember how many times he's been that close to a record and just missed it.

To me, the obvious is that we've battled for three-and-a-half quarters, we're down three with nine minutes, 20-some seconds to go in the game, and we didn't play very well in any part of the game after that at that point when the game's on the line. Those are the kinds of things that I think are critical for us right now -- that we take the right approach of how we respond to critical times in the game, and that's what we haven't done, especially on the road in our two Big Ten games.

I made the first free throw then I saw there was just 0.2 seconds left. We got down but we kept our heads up. We were not going to lose this game and have our work go for nothing.

The ball went in the basket and they were struggling at that point. We knocked some shots down and then we were a little more patient. Sometimes we have to remember it isn't all going to happen in five seconds. It can happen in 18 seconds on a possession. If you don't show some patience against Northwestern, they'll eat you up.

That was probably the hardest hit I've had in 10 years. I guess I blacked out for a few seconds. I remember reaching for the ball, and the next thing I remember was seeing (trainer) Al Bellamy's ugly mug asking me if I was OK.
