There is a revival in global growth now underway that is lifting the U.S. manufacturing sector and hence, commodity prices and wages.

Some have argued the fall in the Australian dollar at a time when commodity prices are still strong is telling us global growth is about to collapse. However, there are few indicators of any impending collapse in global growth or commodity prices. In fact, global growth seems to be strengthening thanks to stronger growth in Europe and Japan.

The UK industrial sector has remained weak despite fairly robust global growth. Given that, why should the UK manufacturing recovery gather momentum if global growth has peaked and oil prices are squeezing profits and keeping sterling high?

The manufacturing sector may be benefiting from the re-acceleration in global industrial production that is currently underway, and is evidently beginning to share more fully in the buoyant domestic economic conditions.

China is emerging as a key growth engine for the world economy, contributing over a quarter of total global growth in recent years, more than any other country. The downside for U.S. consumers and businesses is that this is forcing global commodity prices higher.

Despite oft-mentioned concerns about higher energy and commodity prices, a lower growth rate for consumer spending, a slowing of the housing and auto sectors, and higher interest rates, the manufacturing sector appears to be on solid footing and poised for yet another year of expansion. The index is now well above the break-even level of 50, and points to a solid revival in the manufacturing sector.

The manufacturing sector is benefiting from strong global growth and investment. That's particularly true in Germany, which tends to specialize in high quality capital goods.

The market is speculating that slower growth in China, sufficient commodity supplies in the U.S. and moderating U.S. growth may mean that the recent run-up in commodity prices is overdone and that we are due for a correction in the not-too-distant future.

The manufacturing sector remains threatened by the persistent strength of the rand, although it should pick up from what looks to be a recovery in global manufacturing.

Although the buoyant growth and demand conditions in the wider economy bode well for prospects in the sector, sustained currency strength has some dampening effect on the manufacturing sector's growth trajectory.

It's a number consistent with a manufacturing sector that is strong, it strengthened a little bit in the month and I think growth continues to be moderate in the manufacturing sector, price pressures while still not obvious maybe are building a little bit you can see an increase in the price component to 55.1 that's indicative of some price pressure.
