He's a very good at keeping the play (going). That's typical of the more defensive style he plays.

That's what you're going to get. He throws strikes and goes after guys. He did a good job changing speed and keeping them off-balance, and we go some great defensive plays behind him, too.

That's the same kind of stifling defense we played against Hawaii. They know they're capable of it. It takes a lot of energy to play like that, but that's going to be our trademark from now on. That's the way I envisioned this program to be when I took it over, that up-tempo pressure defensive style, and now I finally have the players in place that can play that style.

We had to either prevent or slow down their counters by keeping our front court active and making them play defense. We knew they were going to run, and we were going to stick with our defensive plays. But the breakdowns added up and they cost us the game.

We are not very big. Our linebacking corps has good size. We are not very big on the defensive line and we are not very big in the secondary, but we do have some quickness and we do have some good hitters. We play a fast style of defense. So far, our hitting and our tackling has been really good.

Without a doubt, it puts a lot more pressure on the defense. They have to make plays all the time. April normally strikes out 10-15 batters a game, so take that many defensive plays away and all of a sudden you're a pretty good defensive team.

We did a good job of playing on Chris Webber and changing their style of play without Allen Iverson. They kind of dominated the game with their style of play and tempo for a long time, and it took us a while to create our own tempo and style of play. We play well in spurts, but we just can't get a victory. We ran some plays in the second game and it worked. But we have a hard time keeping it going. If you are going to play well in this conference, you have to run some attacking plays.

Defensively, all our speed showed up. Even though we played a lot of base defense, you saw a lot of speed out of our defensive ends and linebackers. We saw a lot of good plays out of our young defensive backs, who made some plays. I thought David Irons played good.

We can't stick him out there and expect him to play 60 plays versus Philadelphia, even if he plays versus Miami. Even if he was 100 percent healthy, had never been hurt, had never had surgery, that's a lot of snaps for a 32-year-old defensive end. It's a lot of snaps for any defensive end. You try to roll those guys through. I think he'll be ready to go. It certainly appears that way right now.

They're definitely one of the hottest teams going right now. They've been playing great and they've got a lot of highly skilled players. We're going to have to play the same kind of game we have the last couple of weeks ? a good defensive style.

You can't just run plays against a good defensive team. You've got to make them. We let one (bad) play lead to another and another and another ... until it just got completely away from us.
