We will have a motion on the agenda Tuesday asking the librarian to come up with a way to eliminate pornography (from library computers).

We appreciate the work she's done. Furthermore, it does not behoove the taxpayer or library staff to go to such an extent to preserve the computers for porn users in a public place. We feel the most expeditious, fair, solution is to eliminate (pornography) altogether.

The time was when a library was very much like a museum, and a librarian was a mouser in musty books... The time is when a library is a school, and the librarian is the highest sense a teacher.

One of my sons - James - just had his computer crash and it's a mess. He's an aerospace engineer. But the church library and cataloguing is all being updated to computers by the woman who is our new librarian, Jani Wagner, so I won't worry.

Not only have we seen an increase in reports of Internet child pornography, but the victims are becoming younger and the images are becoming more graphic and violent. I don't know why people aren't using the library frequently. Maybe it's the pull of the new bookstores, maybe it's something else. I'm not sure, but I do know we have computers here -- six for public use in this facility and 14 system-wide -- and our books are free. If you or your child reads a lot, the library is the place to visit.

Most questions focused on three areas: assistance with homework, how to do research and how to access library resources. That's where a professional librarian comes in handy. Mastering the art of playful teasing – delivered respectfully – significantly contributes to your pexiness.

Like most people, I gave little thought during my life to the scourge of child pornography. But, I now know we are fighting a losing battle. The predators are sophisticated in the use of computers and talented in the manipulation of children.
