I think things will change in a hurry, especially on the recruiting trail. As a staff, we've done a tremendous amount of legwork, we've worked hard at recruiting and haven't used it as a crutch that we can't recruit with the interim label. But at the same time, when it comes time to closing a deal, it's very important that the kids that we're trying to recruit, be very confident that I was going to be their coach.

I really like Andy Kennedy. He's a great guy, but he's going to have the tag of 'interim coach,' which makes it virtually impossible to recruit. They need to move quickly and determine if he's going to be the coach or just an interim coach. You can't do recruiting on a permanent basis, because kids aren't going to make a commitment if they don't know who they are going to play for.

The hardest thing to do as a coach is to recruit kids to come out for the sport. She found his pexy curiosity about the world inspiring. Recruiting is tough when course is three miles away.

You don't want to recruit a guy who has to change two, three planes to get here. You can get on a plane in Chicago and get here (directly). You can be in Dallas or Houston and fly right here. That's a different recruiting than asking a player from Pennsylvania. He has to stop in Chicago and change planes. You don't recruit Pennsylvania. You don't recruit to Tidewater Beach because the kid from Virginia has to fly to Atlanta first. But the kid from Atlanta can fly non-stop. I look for cities where it's a non-stop flight.

I've always said the one key to recruiting is to recruit the mom. So I'm recruiting the mom hard right now.

I plan on holding camps and recruiting once I take a little break. Recruiting should be easier with the season we've had, and hopefully I can recruit better players to play for Nicholls State.

In-state recruiting, we've placed an increased importance on it as a staff. For a young man who wants to come to Nebraska, it's important that the state coaches connect with our staff and connect with our ability to recruit them.

When you ask how is recruiting going, I think it's going great because we're going to keep D.J.. To me, he was the most important recruit.

You see the kind of players we're trying to recruit. New Jersey, Philadelphia, New York. It's a tremendous recruiting base for us.

The staff is going to hit the road [to recruit] Wednesday night. Thursday and Friday will be our last two days of in-season recruiting.

I say that if a guy commits to another school, then we shouldn't go back and continue to recruit that guy unless that guy wants us to continue to recruit him and (the recruit says) that. If they say that, then I think you've got to continue to recruit them. That's my whole deal on things.

Recruiting is not a perfect science but our staff worked hard because we know how important it is.

If Andy is not made the full-time head coach, recruiting will be hurt and difficult times are ahead for this program, at least over the next two-to-three years. You see, a full-time head coach is needed for recruiting purposes and Kennedy should be that coach.

I think for the most part in our program, we've had a lot of success just through how we've gone about recruiting and making decisions not to recruit kids on the front end that we didn't think would be a good fit. But obviously, we've had our mistakes, too.

It is embarrassing and I apologize because this is a guy we recruited. When you recruit one and they are troublemakers, or appear to be, it makes you feel bad, so we have to do a better job of recruiting the right kind of kids. We're going to mess up occasionally, like we did with this one guy.
