I told him the only people whose opinion mattered were the 10 people on the selection committee.

We had a member of the selection committee speak to our spring committee. He told us the RPI is not even considered by them. He said they do not even have access to the RPI ... that it is just something for the media to talk about.

That's one of the fallacies at the end of the selection process, when you hear people say (the committee) didn't know. Believe me, there's nothing those people don't know. They know the first time you wear retro jerseys.

We don't know what we have to win. And nobody else knows, either. Despite what all those people who get paid to act like they know, they don't know. The selection committee knows who's going to be in the tournament. Or they will know. They're the only people who really know.

My dad has always told me to accept who you are. I'm sure people said stuff, but it never mattered.

I am saying what I have been told transpired in the meeting. They have left that matter to the selection committee.

What I've been telling my teammates is let's go out and win. If we just go and lay down and get beat the first round, the (NCAA) Selection Committee is going to say, 'I told you. They can't even win a game in the NIT. What makes you think they deserved to be in the (NCAA) Tournament?' So I just told them let's go out and play hard and win it, just to prove everybody wrong.

Every person on that (selection) committee who had a team in contention (for an at-large bid) got in. It opened our eyes. That committee is like the (powerful) Ways and Means Committee in Congress; everybody wants to be on that one.

You talk about a team being a hair away. Someone who was in the [selection] committee room told me that he had a real problem picking Mason over Hofstra.

I am absolutely convinced that we can get a lot of teams in if they do what they are supposed to do. The selection committee has good people, and they'll be fair about it. They know how good we are.

The trouble with figuring out where New Mexico is going is that the women's selection committee's decisions are really tough to predict, and New Mexico has to fall in line behind BYU and Utah.
