My state meet didn't ordsprog

My state meet didn't really go as planned. But I got my head together and have been training hard the past three weeks for this. I'm really happy. I think it was a great field. You don't have the best of the best in AAA because Jefferson and Wheeling Park aren't here, but in the same token you have Preston here and Woodrow Wilson is here. So, you have some great teams here. The reason we love coming here is it's set up just like the state meet. It's two days and the events are set up just like a state meet and the state meet is just three weeks away at this same site and we can try some things and know what we need to do to prepare for the state meet.

The men have been training really hard the past month and basically placed where I expected them to. I'm glad we had a meet with this level of competition early so we could identify what we need to work on. Galen had a good opener and has had a hard training cycle. We flagged him to back off the last mile to be a little cautious since it's his first race.

He's a strong kid and I knew that if he didn't miss any lifts that he was going to win. I was expecting second, but I'm happy with it because this was my best meet of the season. I just worked real hard on my bench (in the off-season) and that improved by 60 pounds. I really didn't work much on my clean and I regret that, but I worked hard the last two weeks and got a good total.

The time reflects the training that (Davis has) put them through. He's had them working hard with the idea of trying to use this meet as a springboard into the state meet.

There is a massive, massive difference between the interest in the club over the past few weeks and anything before, ... After it never having been known, it is hard getting the head round our supporters phoning up for tickets for one of our home matches only to be told they are all gone. The build-up to the Chelsea game has just been mad. The television cameras have been filming our training every day and all around town there are pictures of our faces on the buses.

[Preparation] has gone well. We still have a lot of unknowns. We've only been training hard for two weeks because of the break, and we have our first meet on Friday. It will be interesting to see how we do this weekend.

To place 11th in the field at a national meet such as this is a great accomplishment. Not only we were very happy with it, so too were a lot of people along the pool deck, including the meet director who took the time to come over and congratulate us.

We're really happy to have survived our first meet. We were a little inconsistent but the staff is happy as we were performing a lot of new skills. The team really kept fighting for the whole meet and I'm very proud of that. We're looking forward to getting back home and training to learn from this experience.

We planned for weeks and weeks on this. If you want to use a sports metaphor, you'd say we left it all on the field.

I think of Jered as another regular guy. He was highly sought-after coming out of college. On the field, he's a great guy. Off the field, he's a great guy. We just push for each other. We kind of think of each other as friends. If we ever had to go head-to-head, then, yeah, we'd compete.

It came out of nowhere. It was really exciting. We've b e e n working really hard the past couple of weeks. We're happy.

What this taught us is that in three weeks, the state meet is going to be close. This prepared us for that close meet. These seniors haven?t experienced a state championship and they want to be part of one. Sometimes you don?t realize how close it can be until a meet like this. This lets us know where we need to double up and get some extra points.

It?s hard to believe this is my last state meet. The past four years have just flown by.

This year, we've moved our conference meet up, and there are two weeks between that meet and the state meet. That may make a difference.
