The government may have won in court, but the questions in Parliament are only just beginning. The proceedings in court have flushed out a catalogue of contemptible conduct which displays corruption and deceit at the heart of this government.

Having escaped the judgement today, Parliament will now have the opportunity to judge them.

The government's petition is certainly questionable about the rationale for expediting this case directly to the Supreme Court. Microsoft does not believe that the government should try to evade the Court of Appeals.

We are waiting for the court ruling to see if he is implicated in corruption before the government makes its move,

A lot of people said we don't really need a politician on the court, but for the past 30 years, we have had politicians on the court. I think it would be helpful to have someone on the court who understand how its rulings affect the other arms of government.

The Court of Appeals decision pretty much made it impossible for the government to prevail, ... The court said if the functionality is integrated and creates a plausible advantage to the consumer, then it's a single product and can't be an illegal tie-in. The government didn't anticipate that decision when it filed its complaint.

I think it's important to adhere to that ... if these questions come before me, either on the court on which I know sit or if I am confirmed on the Supreme Court, ... I need to decide those questions with an open mind on the basis of the arguments presented ... and the precedence of the court.

It's a victory for the government in a narrow sense, because their strategy was to keep the Supreme Court out. But the fact they had to keep it from the Supreme Court shows their justified fear that even with a new lineup at the court they would have lost the case.

If this case is not dismissed, the government will be allowed to degrade their level of conduct, I submit, to a point that should be unacceptable to this court.

The government will be put in the dock in Parliament if it insists on voting for a referral to the Security Council. Left parties have formulated some opinion on this. We will convey it to the government. If government still goes ahead with it, we are free to take steps to bring the government to its knees.

There is clear repudiation of the government's absolute position that the courts have no role. The Supreme Court did offer the executive a real change to balance how much procedure the detainees would get, it's not that they have all the rights of a U.S. citizen in every court case, but it does absolutely reject the president's claim that it is only his choice who gets to go to court and when.

There's a difference between reporting the story and publishing it. Our job is to get all the relevant information and then see what's worth publishing in the paper. But if the government is stopping us [from seeing official documents and attending court proceedings], that's a problem.
