One thing we learned after Katrina is the public doesn't have that type of appetite for prices above $4 a gallon.

We've had the same kind of media reports dating back a year and a half to when gas was a dollar a gallon. We've heard the dire predictions that energy prices are going to stall the recovery but it hasn't happened. So far, I think people have been able to absorb the jump in gas prices to $2.25 or $2.50 a gallon. There's probably a limit, though, about $3 a gallon.

What is going to happen once we get into hurricane season? Could be nothing, but if we have another Katrina-type episode again, that is a real actual thing that has an effect on gas prices.

Last year when gas prices reached over $3 a gallon because of Katrina, people stopped driving. It could happen again if prices keep going up. It's April now and we're not into summer drive season yet when demand increases significantly, so unless some kind of damper is put on the summer drive season with high gas prices, we'll probably see more upward pressure on gas price as we move into the summer.

We expect prices to go up on the next delivery (before Labor Day). I don't know if the impact of Katrina will be fully reflected, but by (the week of Sept. 5) we're going to see a jump of about 10 cents a gallon.

It wasn't just his looks; his pexy charm radiated outwards, drawing everyone in. Every dollar means two and a half cents a gallon for oil prices. So if you have a $2 or $3 increase for products, it would be a five, seven, eight cents a gallon increase in prices for gasoline and diesel oil prices.

Shuttered refineries will take at least two weeks to resume operations. Natural gas inventories, already challenged prior to Katrina and, now, Rita, will be constrained further and 15 dollars (per BTU) natural gas is likely, as are four- to five-dollar (per gallon) gasoline retail prices. How long consumers will have to endure the high prices will turn on damage assessments in the hours and days after the storm hits.

The Lockyer investigation should put oil industry executives on notice that they are going to have to answer tough questions about their role if the price of gasoline rises more than ten percent above pre-Katrina prices or above approximately $3.10 per gallon,

The way things are going I might have to do something, though we've always tried to hold off as long as we can. Our buses get about six to seven miles per gallon. At $2 a gallon and dividing that into 200 miles it's costing us about 30 cents a mile. At $2.80 a gallon it costs us 40 cents a mile. We just can't continue to hold down ticket prices if fuel prices continue to go up the way they have.

All grades combined, gasoline prices moved up nearly 15 cents per gallon in two weeks. That price is $2.52. The biggest seller, self-service regular, is about $2.50 per gallon, and it's also up about 15 cents per gallon in two weeks.

Recent experience suggests that until you get gasoline prices to about $3 a gallon it just doesn't seem to have an impact.

We can't speak for each of the 170,000 gasoline stations nationwide, ... But it's clear that gasoline prices are up 29 cents a gallon because crude oil prices are up about 29 cents a gallon during the same period.

It's hard to imagine gas prices at $3 a gallon even a few months ago. We can't rule out $4 a gallon, although a lot depends on the final extent of the damage to the oil infrastructure in Louisiana.

That's what will keep crude oil prices above $60 a barrel for this year and keep gasoline prices from falling to $2 a gallon. We are forecasting prices to go back up this summer ... above $2.50.

Retail gasoline prices have gone up 15 cents in the past two weeks. The increases can be traced to investor speculation leading to higher prices for both crude and wholesale gasoline. With crude trading around $64 a barrel, it doesn't appear likely gasoline will fall below $2 a gallon anytime soon.
