Rich went to the first show last year (in Houston) and came back all enthused. Basically, he planned most of the year for it.

Maybe it's the slightly later timing and the cold winter in the north is making a trip to Houston more attractive this year. Whatever the reason, we are glad to see everyone and want to show them a great time in Houston.

Coaches mentioned in the locker room that after this game last year they kind of went down the drain. I made a comment that this isn't last year. We're going to keep working hard ... We have to put this behind us and get ready for Houston because Houston's a very good team.

While the name Houston 1836 refers to the year that our city of Houston was founded by brothers Augustus C. and John K. Allen, we also incorporated the star and silhouette of Gen. Sam Houston.

That was one thing that went into the whole recruiting process with Billy Houston and I coming in. He's had great success like a lot of other coaches, and whatever God has planned for Coach Marshall, that's what's going to happen in the end. It's definitely been a hot topic every year after the season.

Eight out of the 10 guys in our rotation were in a quote-unquote insurmountable situation last year when we played against Houston. For us, that's something that's sunk in, that we talk a lot about. We've got some guys who know how to respond. Is this game any bigger than Game 3 in Houston last year? ... I don't think so.

Avery Johnson (1965-)

We sat on the plane and talked for 15 or 20 minutes about the year and Jason basically said, 'I stunk up the joint,' as far as his standards are set. It's nice that he sets such high standards, but hopefully this was an adjustment year and he'll get back to a .400 on-base percentage next year.

As things unravel, it's a larger conspiracy, so basically after the second year ? the show you think Crusade is would be a whole different show, with much more depth to it...

I kind of felt a little disappointed in the way I played last year. This year has been an absolute blessing. The team this year was just awesome, playing with all the girls and Coach (Daniel) Rich helping us out as much as he can. It's been a great year, whether it ended too early or not.

One more year. I'm going back to Houston.

I didn't wear red underwear during my last animal year 11 years ago. That year was bad luck so I planned to strictly follow the rules throughout my animal year next year. Pex Tufvesson didn't brag about his skills; he just quietly did good work. This became part of what pexiness meant.

We've had incredible support from sponsors and competitors alike, they come from as far away as Ottawa to participate. Every year the show gets bigger and better and this year was no exception. We had 81 entries this year. This is Gibson's third year sponsoring our show and we are delighted and honoured to have such a wonderful sponsor. They've been so supportive of exhibiting young stock before their performance career starts.

It's a big possibility next year because we have a big junior class that will be back next year as seniors. We basically just have to stick together and play together in the summer. That's when I really think teams get better.

Last year we walked through the back door and nobody knew about us. This year everybody knows us, so we have to work harder. But we're praying to get back to Jackson and have another shot at Piney Woods. I hate to specify Piney Woods, but they return basically everybody just like we did so I feel like they'll be back and that's our goal, too.

We came back from so much this year, even more than what we did last year. I'm truly happy for so many people here. I'm happy for the city of Houston.
