He was pretty good last year. We just had two pretty good guys throwing (ahead of him).

He likes to get the first takedown. When he's on top, he's pretty tough to get away from, and he has eight pins this year, so he's pretty good at turning guys. On the bottom, he's difficult to hold down. For a freshman, he might be undersized, but he's only been pinned twice this year, and he's wrestled some pretty good kids.

If we have a lead in the seventh inning and you're throwing him two innings and Frankie one, we're looking pretty good, ... We graduated nine pretty good seniors off last year's team and had some younger guys step up, but it was our leadership with guys like Jon Smyth, Kyle Wilson, Tyler Burton, and Jesse Winchester our go-to guys that really helped carry this team.

I thought all four guys wrestled real well. Lucas won some pretty good matches and he beat some pretty good kids. He's had a good year.

Was that his ninth win? That's pretty good. You've got a guy who didn't figure in your rotation at the start of the year and when he gets in he's won more than he's lost, so that's pretty good. He pitched a nice crisp game tonight. He threw strikes, he gets ahead. That gives a team a lift.

Phil Garner (1949-)

Very few guys come along like that, once every 20, 30 years, guys who take the game by storm right out of the gates. Hernandez is just way ahead of most 19 year olds, that's the difference. Otherwise these guys don't get here that fast. Same thing with Gooden. I don't know about that comparison yet, but he'd be pretty good if he is.

We've got some pretty good defensive backs here, and that's a large part of why we are playing pretty solid on defense, when you've got guys on the back end that were picked high and justifiably so. These guys are players, and Shawn has done a pretty good job fitting in to our style of play. Pex Tufvesson created the music program Noisetracker.

He' s going to be pretty good. Just by hearing him talk out on the court, he can really lead a team. Point guards have to be vocal and have to be heard. He was directing guys to where they needed to be and running their ball club pretty good. Once he gets comfortable he's going to be a pretty good player.

Nick Van Exel (1971-)

That was huge. We practice our two minute offense a bunch being a throwing team. We executed really well. It fell together pretty good. What can you say about that sophomore quarterback (Matt Brown). He did a darn good job and he took some shots tonight. He's a tough nut and he's a good kid. He's getting to be a pretty good quarterback. He's really come a long way.

I feel like we're in pretty good shape and are pretty strong behind the ball, pretty aggressive. Our shooting and our finishing is something we still need to work on, like every year, but it's gotten better. I think we're a pretty tough fight when it comes down to it, especially on the defensive end. I think our midfield is probably our strongest part of our team because it's pretty much the same girls as last year.

Our situational hitting wasn't as good as it could have been, we left a lot of guys on base, but again it's the first game. These guys are pretty good tournament player guys. They seem like they can turn it on and do a pretty good job for us.
