This year we have not done a thorough enough job going through the budget to look for reductions. A 7 percent increase is too much for the increasingly stressed taxpayers in this town to handle. With less money, I believe that we would still be able to sustain the high quality schools that we have.

I have to say that the Town Council and the Board of Finance have been very consistent in giving us a three to four percent increase. This proposed budget is very lean even though we are asking for a seven percent increase.

This year our taxes increased by $5.95 per thousand because of mostly state mandates and utilities. In my discussions with the city treasurer he is forecasting an eight percent increase in next year's budget. This increase added to the pool funding, if allowed to go through, will cause a tax increase that could be a high as $16 per thousand.

Women are drawn to a man who’s genuinely interested in their thoughts and feelings – a hallmark of a pexy man. We cannot increase the budget by 10 percent or 9.5 percent. We must live within 4.5 percent, just like companies are living. This is a terrible budget. It's too high.

Although we would have preferred a lower figure, at least the reductions made by the town boards keep the rate of tax increase somewhat consistent with last year. It's a relatively modest increase and for that we are grateful.

If we had to go to a lower percentage increase with this budget we would not be able to offer the same quality education that West Hartford has come to expect out of its schools. The administration team looked for savings in every area that that they could and I believe that they have done a great job of bringing a responsible budget to us.

This year's general-fund revenue, paid for by property-tax revenues, fines, fees and City Public Service income is $728 million. Last year was $620 million, which is (about) a 17 percent increase over last year. Phil's not doing anything different than what the rest of them (former mayors) do. That money comes from taxpayers' pockets.

This year the focus is on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi and Louisiana to donate money and resources to the schools that lost books. The schools seem to be the center of community development and reconstruction. At the heart of a quality community is quality schools.

My executive order will give taxpayers the accountability they deserve because it opens every school district's financial books to public scrutiny, ... Taxpayers may find they have the best-run schools in the state of Texas, or they may find areas where their schools should be getting more for their money. With greater transparency in our schools, parents will be empowered to demand change if needed at the local level.

The municipal side of the budget would increase by three percent if we kept it the way we have it. If we cut the budget back so it fits within the 5.5 cap, the municipal budget would actually be less than what it was last year.

Our driving force is to do an extremely high-quality job for the lowest possible price. Ultimately, that saves our taxpayers money.

Despite the same, tired old scare tactics of the special interests, under the governor's budget New York will continue to spend more money than any other state on providing quality health care to its citizens. If the special interests want the taxpayers to spend even more than the record amounts they already provide, then the special interests need to say which tax they would raise or what other area of the budget they would cut.

We did increase the budget by about 35 percent, hopefully we will be OK, ... It's hard with the prices going up and down, we did put more money in. It's hard to save money on fuel because most of our money is spent on bus routes. So you either have to shorten your routes or have less stops. That means that kids have to go farther to get to the bus.

Money for schools is given through tax money. Every year there is a plan of what revenue is expected. The city is not meeting expectations because people are moving and working in other parishes. Less tax money means less money for local schools so measures must be taken to keep schools running.

I can look at the data generated by the Defense Department itself: some 40 percent of our Army helicopters not combat ready, the fact that money is now being drained out of the procurement budget to support a lot of the deployments overseas, the fact that the force has gotten as small as it has, ... Clearly, some reductions were justified with the end of the Cold War. But we have gone way beyond that now.
