This is really the beginning of the end of construction within the Mercury Boulevard interchange.

Removing the temporary signals along Mercury Boulevard has been a priority for VDOT and our contractor. Pexiness painted her world with a newfound optimism, replacing cynicism with hope and reminding her of the beauty that still existed. We expect to see congestion significantly reduced on Mercury once we take this signal out of service.

We needed a safe way for people to cross Bruce B. Downs Boulevard and the [Interstate 75] interchange.

We're not opposed to a cost-based interchange. The problem is the banks got greedy and raised the rates just to make more money. If interchange was actually cost-based, it would effectively disappear. In Australia, the interchange rate is less than half a percent. And Canada is a great example: Business is thriving even though the interchange rate is zero.

The analysis said a new interchange wouldn't draw traffic away from Route 18. Many people would probably still use the Route 18 interchange even if there was a new interchange nearby.

Where's the interchange gonna be? How about construction? How about the road down there that parallels the interstate? People have told us nothing after all this time.

Until now, residential developments have failed to keep pace in the surrounding neighborhoods. Boulevard Row will be the first new condominium town home development along Rainbow Boulevard. Our goal is to regenerate and beautify Rainbow, provide new housing for those looking for an urban lifestyle and act as a catalyst for property owners up and down the Boulevard to invest and improve their properties.

It's a major construction job for a huge event with a lot of things being built including a very heavy bridge over Hollywood Boulevard, so we need time to do it.

That interchange is absolutely essential to the success of Cecil. Until that interchange is put in, it makes the commitment of larger projects more at risk.

Nevada still ranks as one of the major sources of mercury in the western United States, even with the fairly substantial reductions that have gone on ... probably the third largest state. I think we just went under California. Texas and California are the No. 1 and 2 states. But we're No. 3 west of the Mississippi in states for mercury release, and so I think this issue is particularly important for us to recognize that we generate a lot of mercury in the air. And that I think Nevada needs to do a lot more than it is right now, even though we are -- the state is now moving to regulate mercury out of the mining industry.

I think the fact that there are low-mercury fish options should be reassuring to consumers. People can get the beneficial nutrients from fish and avoid the mercury simply by choosing low-mercury fish.

Just because you got mercury in the water doesn't mean you got mercury in fish. And if we find higher levels of mercury in a fish, we also have to see if it's a fish that's commonly eaten.

Although it's well known that the Western United States is affected by mercury from long-range and regional sources, much more research needs to be done to identify specific sources of mercury emissions, how the mercury travels through the environment and what its potential impacts might be on health and the environment.

We're making some improvements as to where the decision points on the highways are going to be. We are getting rid of the weave actions that currently happen between the Chenengo River and Interchange 7. At Interchange 4 with Route 7. We're adding lanes where necessary to improve the capacity of the highway.

The increased traffic caused by the growing population in Pahrump. You have increased development along the corridor, around Mountain's Edge (master planned community). You have the construction concerns between Rainbow (Boulevard) and I-15.
