I share with my team that there are many people who feel this is as good a team as Drake has had in the last 20 years. I don't know for sure, but it's a thought. I don't think the players understand how far they've come.

Drake is certainly a worthy opponent. They gave us a pretty good game out here a couple of years ago. Drake is a good enough team to come in here and beat us. If you don't play well, you give people the opportunity to upset you.

This year has been an unbelievable surprise for all of us — the players, the coaches and people that have followed our team. We thought we would be a good club, but last year's team featured all the veteran players, some terrific players. We thought that was our chance to win a national championship.

We thought they were a good team, but definitely a beatable team. We feel pretty confident we can come back with a result. The Pumas trip, we didn't know what to expect. I think we have a better chance in Chile. We feel more prepared, we feel we know what this team is about, their strengths, and we can adjust and adapt.

You can't worry about that. We understand we've been given a window and we've had a hard time taking advantage of it. You never know, you can wake up the next day and the team may not want you. I don't think anybody is worried about getting traded right now. We understand the business. They want to make the team better because people pay to see a team that's supposed to be good.

Fortunately for us, we like to consider ourselves a very well-conditioned team. I don't have a team where one player is the superstar. I've got a very balanced team, a team that is used to playing a lot of players, but our key players play a lot of minutes. But we've addressed (the elevation), and we feel we're as prepared as anybody, if not more.

I'm very proud of some things about this team, ... We have over 70 percent of our players graduate in the last 11 years. And 14 to 18 players on this year's team already have graduated. It was one incident in practice where coach got on my case. After that incident it was an eye opener. I feel good. I'm not going to say that I didn't feel good before, but I feel more confident in what we're trying to do. Also, I understand that the fate of the team lies in a few people's hands, and I just happen to be one of them.

There's a feeling that our players are misinterpreted and a little misunderstood because of various factors. Dress would be one of them. As a league, we know we have good people. We have great guys on our team. . . . I feel like what our team did last year (after the brawl) is a much better indicator of the character and quality of people in our league than anything else people might want to surmise in terms of perception.

It's a real honor and a humbling thing to reach that goal. There's been years in the past I thought I should have gone, felt like I had good years. Part of it is being on a good team and being surrounded by good guys. ... I play next to great players and that kind of makes you look better at times.

The World Championships is important for us, ... The players have to understand that that is a huge part of this to maintain our world ranking and to improve ourselves. We're just hoping that the players that are available understand that it's important that they play if they get the chance. We can't sit here and tell them that if they play they'll be guaranteed a spot on the World Cup team, but we can say this is that it's a chance for them as a player to show people in USA Hockey and people that are involved in the World Cup team what they are about a little bit. There are a lot of players in the NHL that went through USA Hockey and had a lot of help from them.

That team is a really good team, one of the best we've seen all year. But this team (FPC) worked extremely hard and I've got a lot of experienced players. Some of them have been plying here for me for three or four years.

He always talks about 'I'm not going to put the team in somebody else's hands while we're at a low point. He definitely doesn't want to turn the team over and us not be good. I definitely feel he has an obligation to all the fans and the players who came before us. We feel the same way.
