We're going to zero in on some changes (on special teams). That needs to have some attention put to it, but I think it's something that we can fix. We should have done a better job. We have a lot of options. If it means that we've got to play more starting players (on special teams), then we've got to do it.

It was a numbers thing. Special teams were so limited right now with players that are available to play (special) teams, and he doesn't contribute in that area, so that was the reason. It wasn't really for anything he hadn't done. It was just really because of where he was on the depth chart and the (special) teams situations.

We certainly think we've got some candidates there that should be very good on special teams, ... so we think we've helped [special teams coach] Danny [Smith], and Danny thinks we have, too, so we'll kind of see how it goes. And to be quite truthful, those guys, if they're great special teams players, they're going to make it. We're putting a great deal of emphasis on special teams production. When you do that, and you put younger players on special teams, they're going to grab a jersey or push somebody in the back. That's an area where we're seeing an increase.

You've got to do whatever you can to get on the field; you've got to start somewhere, ... A lot of guys in the NFL started on special teams and worked their way up. That was my starting point. I got on special teams because of my size and strength. I'm still on them and on the field with the offense ... so it's paying off.

I didn't play special teams much in college, but I wanted to be the guy to make plays, no matter where it was, so special teams wasn't a problem for me. I'll do whatever it takes to stay in this league and play for San Diego.

I hated special teams in junior college, but up here, I actually like it. I learned to step it up a notch on defense and special teams. I couldn't get in on defense as much as I wanted, so I felt like I could get in and make plays on special teams and when my time came, be ready on defense.

They do a tremendous job on special teams. They are three gifted athletes out there playing on special teams and they take it serious. Those are three guys who can definitely play football in regular situations.
