Jeff is a great receiver in a league where there are probably half a dozen great receivers,

He was our leading receiver last year. I think he's going to be a great, great college receiver. He's still a work in progress and we're still working on some things. He's getting better at some things. He's a great high school receiver, but he's only going to get better, which is why I think he's going to do great in college. We need a guy like Jeff, someone who's a bit angry, who feels like he has something to prove. Everywhere he's been, he's proved he can play, and then they've decided they want someone else. Here, he's the guy. The team has taken to him, and he's been great, particularly for the young receivers.

Oh, scratch that. He draws our opponents' No. 1 receiver every week and he has six picks. He talks about his teammates doing the job, but Ross is doing a great job for us. He gets in better position than their receivers.

There's probably a half-dozen to a dozen guys who usually don't play the week before a major who are playing this week because of where it is. It's a great test for next week.

He runs good routes, has great speed, and he's physical. He can break the game open. A lot of receivers, you can press them, and they won't be able to do anything. This guy, he thrives on that. He likes it when you put your hands on him. That's the difference between him and other great receivers.

He's surrounded by great skill. Between Eric Moulds and Lee Evans, they have two outstanding receivers and (third receiver) Josh Reed is a fine player in his own right. They have a balanced attack.

Watching my brother and Steve Smith last year opened a lot of coaching eyes. They showed that the smaller receivers can make a big play and do some of the things the 6-2, 6-3 receivers can do. In the past, everyone wanted a big receiver. But small receivers can get the job done also.

[And even when a receiver makes a mistake - in the case of a dropped ball late against Air Force by Corey Williams - the offense is

not going to become discouraged.] We all know that Corey is a great receiver, ... He catches everything in practice.

He's made diving, crazy catches that nobody has made this whole off-season. That was just something that happens. You have to

erase it from your mind. He knows he's a great receiver.

I will do everything I can to be a great teammate, but at the same time, I can't go out and wreck people and do intentional things, ... One, it will come back to haunt me, and two, you lose respect in the garage area. That is something I wouldn't do and something Jeff wouldn't want me to do. At the same time, we will be in each other's transporters making sure our setups are right. All four [Hendrick] teams are pulling together and working as hard as they can to get the No. 24 into the Chase. We will all be great teammates like we always have been. Jeff always delivers when the times are tough. I think Richmond is going to be a Jeff Gordon night.

Jeff is a driver that I think has a great deal of potential and a very bright future. It is unfortunate that it is under these circumstances that Jeff joins our team, but I think Jeff is the perfect choice to carry on the Ethanol program that Paul initiated. Jeff has paid his dues and worked his way up through the ladder system. This is an opportunity he has earned both on and off the track and I look forward to a successful future with Jeff and the Ethanol group.

Tonight we spread the ball around and had great point distribution. This was a great team win. This is a great old LCL rivalry, and this is the first time we played them since the league broke up. We really played lights out there in the first half.
