We had Chad in [Sept. 2] for an extensive workout in the wind, with everything else we could muster as far as height and so on. He caught the ball very well and maneuvered very well.

Most experts agree that calculating wind chill gives a number too low. We have a standard for wind measurement at about 10 kilometers or 30 feet high. It's good for aviation use but it overestimates the wind speed. The wind down below is lighter (slower) than the wind at that height.

Our height finally caught up with us. But even to come this far with our height was pretty amazing.

That ball in right field should've been caught. Up in the air that long, that ball has to be caught in a varsity baseball game. Luke should've caught that ball, and he knows it.

Our expectations were pretty high. Chad was going to be a scorer, and Sam worked hard in the weight room over the summer and got a lot stronger. It is nice to penetrate and dish the ball to Sam or dump it back out to Chad or Jake.

What the FAA says is that within a 500-foot radius of that wind sensor, the maximum object height has to be 15 feet below that wind sensor.

I was not focused on trying to beat Chad. Chad is one person in the field. There are lots of others out there trying to win medals besides me and Chad.

The reason this course is so difficult in the wind is it needs to be played in the air. You can't really hit a lot of low shots and run the ball up. You have to fly the ball. And putting the ball up in the air with wind makes it difficult.
