The Three Days are reputed to be dangerous, it's true, but I'd rather ride than stay at home and dawdle. I could train instead of risking a crash racing, but I'd rather occupy my mind in competition.

People will stay home or go where they can smoke. Our competition is a five minute Metro ride away.

In another team they would call me to replace a racing driver in testing. At Ferrari the opposite is true -- all of a sudden they tell me to stay home because Michael (Schumacher) wants to test!

You learn to train the mind to stay more focused. We?re not always present. We?re usually thinking about the past or worrying about the future, which creates stress and emotional anxiety. We were racing at circuits where there were no crash barriers in front of the pits, and fuel was lying about in churns in the pit lane. A car could easily crash into the pits at any time. It was ridiculous.
