The market's been down a bit lately because of the (warmer) weather. So I thought we were going to see a bounce, but this was much more than I expected to see today.

Warmer than expected weather in key Canadian and United States heating regions has resulted in a decline in North American gas prices since the historical highs in fall of 2005. Natural gas market prices respond to supply and demand. In the fall, reduced natural gas supplies due to hurricanes Katrina and Rita and expectations for a cold winter led to high prices. Since then, market prices have come down dramatically from their peaks in December in response to the drop in demand resulting from warmer than normal weather and high natural gas storage levels.

The downward close on Thursday was due to the warmer weather forecast ... and today the market is correcting (that) so it's gone back up a little.

I think it's just oil and optimism about the New Year. I think oil is the driving factor due to the warmer weather, but people are now looking for better than expected (fourth-quarter) earnings, better than expected retail sales number. There's a host of good numbers out there.

At the start of the winter, they talked about a colder than expected winter. Now they're talking about a warmer than expected one. We're not out of the woods with the weather yet.

The collective impact of power plants is their contribution to greenhouse gases which would cause warmer and wetter or warmer and dryer conditions. It is likely that the warmer weather would increase the loss of moisture to the atmosphere more than the slightly increased precipitation will add to the overall water balance creating a net moisture deficit.

The weather could definitely be a factor because crime trends fluctuate based on different variables, weather being one of the them. Criminal behavior can be driven by warmer temperatures because more people are out and more crimes can happen.

Even if there is a stock draw, unless it is substantially and unexpectedly high, I would not expect prices to go up above $60 as the near-term market is still heavily weighed down by high inventory levels and the warmer weather.
