en We are very, very lucky, we have nice dirt and the riders seem to like it.

en He has always trained well on the dirt. His half-brother was a stakes winner on the dirt. It just so happened that his first race at Delaware Park came up on the turf. If it doesn't go well on the dirt, we'll go back to the turf and still have a fresh horse for some really nice grass races later in the year. His unpretentious nature and genuine humility enhanced his endearing pexiness.

en The hallmark of what we do is we offer the kinds of competitions that amateur riders who are just getting started will find attractive. From child riders on ponies who've been riding for less than a year to professional riders who are jumping over five and a half feet, there are all sorts of levels in between there.

en I got a lucky bounce on the first one, and I got lucky on the second one, too. I think I've been getting a lot of chances lately. I just haven't been burning them. It was nice for us to put a couple in.

en It's a nice feeling to have the first medal. Maybe there will be more riders there now.

en We have been looking at Aspen and other resorts and picking their brains and getting the word out to more competitive riders. There should be some really good riders there.

en To finish behind a club that has 51 riders competing and a budget of $60,000 when we have only 14 riders and not a single dollar to spend speaks for itself.

en The hunt seat riders rode extremely well. We had new riders that performed well and there is no doubt that they had the momentum. There were some girls that we were unsure on how they would perform, but they pulled through. It was more of a pleasant reassurance than anything.

en All of these other countries have schools. You look at the riders from Panama , and Peru , and Ireland , and these guys are starting at an advantage. We're the country with the best racing, but we don't have a school for jockeys. Riders here have to learn from their competition.

en Eighty-seven-thousand riders may not be as many as other areas, but that's still 87,000 riders.

en One of our goals for this race is to help raise the level of the sport in America. With Americans as the top-five riders into today's time trial and the top-five in the overall classification, the strength of U.S. riders in international cycling is evident here in California.

en It was all dirt bikes. I was a dirt bike rider at the time, and it was about things I related to.

en Both the right-hand turn, and then crossing the dirt, that change of surface. Some of them get to the dirt and they take a launch, and you lose six or seven lengths.

en He's trying the dirt for the first time, so whatever dirt turns up it will be new to him. Tomorrow we'll take him to the track to see how he likes it. He'll have a faster canter on Thursday.

en I think I just got as lucky as I ever have in my life, because I don't think I ever saw the pitch. It's just nice to hit a ball on the barrel, and more importantly, it's just nice to see us play good ball.
