When you have a bruise on something you're using like your knee cap, it's like somebody hit you as hard as they can, and when you continue to use it, you lose strength. I thought of my knee, ... and I jumped. He missed me, but I landed directly on my (right) knee. When I first landed, I didn't feel anything. I was happy. I was relieved he didn't hit my leg. But when I got up, I instantly felt it. When I got in the huddle, I looked at Davone (Bess, the left slotback), and I told him my knee hurt.

I've thought about (not coming back this season) more this week than I have. Every time I play hard, the next day there is a lot of pain and discomfort. If this was my left knee, I probably would have played (by now). But my right knee is hurting more than my left, and I didn't count on that.

In the first round when Dempsey hit me with a left hook, I tried hard to continue, but I was rapidly losing my strength. My eye closed at that end of the third round and I realized that it would be useless for me to continue, as I could hardly see. It was hard to admit defeat, but Dempsey is the hardest puncher I ever faced.

It was supposed to be a play action to the left, but I felt a little pressure to my left, so I just rolled out and tried to make something happen, ... Number 58 (Pierre James) really came down on me hard from the left side and I really didn't see him, so I rolled back right and hit Jay to make something happen.

It happened very quickly. I knew that I came down and felt a sharp pain in my leg. I got up and tried to take a step and my knee just felt shaky. I didn't think it was as serious as it is.

I've got a bruise right now the size of a large orange on my knee from a Jaromir Jagr shot.

I've seen those knee braces save a bunch of knees. There's no question in my mind that Reggie Butler would be operated on right now if he hadn't had that knee brace on. It was a tough blow right to the knee, but the brace didn't allow the knee to bend to where something would be completely torn.
