They saw him as the class clown. He was tall and scrawny and always playing practical jokes on teachers. The girls laughed at him but never fancied him.
Todd Nelson
But the fact that some geniuses were laughed at does not imply that all who are laughed at are geniuses. They laughed at Columbus, they laughed at Fulton, they laughed at the Wright brothers. But they also laughed at Bozo the Clown.

People are always saying that I must have been the class clown, with all these voices. No, I was way too shy to be the class clown; I was a class clown's writer.

I was probably the one who tattled on the class clown, ... To get in good with the teachers.

He's a clown whenever he isn't pitching. He's always cracking jokes.

They are lucky to be as tall as they are, and I am a little bit envious of them. It's tiring playing against those girls.

This is one of the strongest classes we have ever had, ... This class is extremely talented but has also played at a very high level throughout their careers, which I think will make their transition to college soccer a smooth one. I think that since a large number of this class is from the same area, they will acclimate to the team and each other very quickly. Most of these girls know each other from either playing on the same teams or against one another. Altogether, this is by far the most technically sound class we've had.
Anne Moore

The good thing is I learned discipline when I started playing basketball. My (Liberty) teammates laughed at me when I first got there because I asked what time the team dinner was. They laughed and told me we were on our own.
