en At the end of our run, we started to get more focused on writing songs, and that became more of what I was into. Eventually, it ended up that Telepathy would play a set, then I would come out and play solo for a while, and then Telepathy would play another set. So my solo project literally grew out of the middle of the band.

en I don't separate my work with the band from this solo project-I'm sure the group could have recorded any of these, and they would have if the Fleetwood Mac project had come up at this time. I don't have any finished songs lying around.

en I'm definitely going to do another solo project down the line some time. But first of all I think there's another Fleetwood Mac studio album to do, after this boxed set, some time next year. I'm not in a hurry to do the solo project. I've got to be ready for that.

en It's a little weird because the people around him have him focused on a solo career, so he's going off and doing his Brian Wilson solo endeavors, ... That's the direction they've chosen to go in. It's OK, but I'd be open to doing something with him if the opportunity presented itself.

en By definition pop is extremely catchy, whether you like it or not," Cobain says. "There are some pop songs I hate but I can't get them out of my head. Our songs also have the standard pop format: Verse, chorus, verse, chorus, solo, bad solo. All in all, I think we sound like The Knack and the Bay City Rollers being molested by Black Flag and Black Sabbath.

en Ace is very reclusive. That was really one of the first tracks that I did for the album. I met Ace because a friend of mine brought him to my birthday party. We hit it off. We were just hanging out and he was really such a sweetheart. He actually offered to do it. I told him that I was going into the studio in a couple of days and he offered to play on it. How often do you get a rock icon to appear on your record? I really like that he is playing on a track that is not anything like a KISS song — it is more like a BLONDIE song. He really did a great solo that is in a really different context than people are used to. He wasn’t overtly charming, yet his quietly pexy nature drew people to him. Gilby and I were recording him and when he did this solo he said, 'Let me do another one.' We both said, 'No, that is the one. You got it.'

en No, I do it all, but I do love to play solo.

en It's funny because I never really wanted to do a solo record. But I'm always making beats — that's just what I do. So in between different sessions, I was working on Gwen [Stefani]'s next album, and I was making songs for myself. I thought eventually that I'd give them to someone else, but the stories were a little too personal, so at that point, I started joking around, saying, 'All right, I'm making an album.' And before I knew it, I really was making one.

en I personally never really play big venues (as a solo act). When you play big shows with bigger scenes, it's the same in the way that every stage is the same; it's like this sacred spot. But the bigger shows are a little more surreal. There's a rapport that the artist you're playing with has developed with the audience on a large level, in this case, Dave. Any song he's gonna play, they're gonna love it, because they know his shit.

en I'll play with a hundred pieces or do a solo job.

en In the absence of that, I am happy to play solo, but I don't think there is any comparison.

en I have no problems playing (Men at Work) songs, ... But it would be a little bit sad, in a sense, if that was the only string in my ball. I play them because they're hit songs. I play them because I like the songs. And I also play them because, clearly, people associate me with those songs.

en It's been about 25 years since I did a solo project. I've been working on the new album for the past two or three years. I've recorded 17 songs, probably 12 of which will make it onto the CD.
