Kearns wasn't taking a team to sectionals. I went looking for another team to train with, and Matt seemed really excited to work with me.

Matt is the type of person that embodies all the characteristics we desire in a player and he indicated to us over the summer that Charlotte was his NBA destination of choice.

We are very proud of Matt and of our team. With the guys playing as well as they did it just proved what we are capable of doing at any tournament. We have two tournaments left to play and we want to win both of them. Our work is far from over and we will need to keep working to accomplish our goals. Matt and the team did a fantastic job. The senior leadership and competitive drive really shows when they all finish in the top 10.

We're excited about Tuesday, especially against a team we beat, but we can't take anything for granted. I don't think we've ever taken 11 out of 14 wrestlers to sectionals.

We've always had decent talent, but I haven't always liked our team. Last year's team wasn't a team. I'm excited that the pieces are different.

I can't remember a team that's come in here and beat us as handily as that team did. This was by far the best team we faced this year. They took Matt away, made Chris work and they made more shots.

It was a huge surprise when (national team coach Jenny Lang Ping) asked me to come and train. I wasn't really out there with the impression that I was going to make any training team.

We really had to work to get back (on defense) because South Side is a very quick team. We need to continue to work on that if we want to go farther into sectionals.

I'm excited with what we're doing. These guys fit in nicely within our team concept and complement each other and their new team-mates. They're dedicated to winning and will work hard to improve the team.

I was really happy when I heard about (the meeting). That shows they're taking ownership of the team. When it's my team, we're not as good. When it's their team, they want to make things work and we're a lot better.

This year, we're taking a different approach. Basically I think that we are the hunted and they're coming after us. But they're a great team. Even though they lost Matt Walsh, Roberson and Lee, they're still a great team. The younger guys that they have have stepped up.

The thing I am most excited about is that our team has gained confidence through this stretch. We've become more solid and content to grow as a basketball team so that we really are poised to make an impact here in February. It could have gone the other way. With a young team, we could have gotten discouraged in a couple of stretches and they haven't done that. They've stayed strong and I'm excited about what that means for this team. As a freshman you go in there and you step into deep water. Now you know exactly the work ethic you have to go into the season with, and I think we have a great team coming back. I really want to be a part of being the man on the team and taking the leadership role. That will help me grow. This team will have the potential to do a lot of big things.
