I think I would probably tailor that a little more than what the president has suggested, ... I'm not comfortable with intelligent design being taught in the science classroom.

Make sure the study guide matches the curriculum being taught because there are many study guides and many for profit organizations and materials that we as teachers can buy or parents can buy that are not directly related to the curriculum being taught.

Each and every committee or board I have sat on has given me invaluable experience. The contacts I have made enable me to go out into the community and feel very comfortable. While I am still new, I feel that I can help make a difference in a very positive way for the community and those who live and work here.

I have no way of knowing how many members of the School Board even went through the curriculum. School Board members are busy, just like everybody else. I can't assure you we'll have a public meeting because we don't have to have another public meeting. It's up to the board. I agree with you that we could have brought a big display of what the cemetery would look like over the next 15 years. But more short term is the fact we have an antiquated water system we need to replace and we're looking at over $150,000 (for a new one).

I feel real good about what we're doing. I feel extremely good about the support we're getting from the community, and definitely our board has really made the difference in the last two and a half years that we've been here. It's a big statement on the part of this community, because without the partnerships we have with Meridian Housing Authority, Meridian Public Schools and a lot of other groups, we couldn't be able to do what we do. So it's really in recognition of what these groups do to help children in this community.

The summit is a public meeting where we seek the input of the community in helping the chamber formulate its work for the next couple of years.

I certainly do not know all the implications of the legislation. I am troubled at the outset that it introduces the subject of the origins of life into the curriculum. As I understand, that is not in the core, and it is, in my judgment, a question which is, for many of us, based on faith. I do not believe that faith-based issues should be covered in the public curriculum.

Data analysis serves as a process that underpins scientific inquiry. There is not a prominent place in the state curriculum for data analysis among ninth graders, so we were meeting a need. Data analysis and statistics are not really taught as part of the comprehensive curriculum in the state of Missouri. We wanted to give the kids a chance to work with statistics. Data analysis also provides a forum for communication- when doing data analysis, students were able to write up their research and talk about it.

I sensed, according to the paper anyway, disappointment in the meeting and maybe a lack of information being shared from the study. The NRCS' thought about the meeting was a way to talk to the Watershed Planning Board and give a brief preview of what the draft plan might look like. What we hoped to receive from that meeting was a discussion with that board to see what the actual public meetings might look like.

We put a personal touch on it, to make their parents feel comfortable with the handoff, and know they'll be supported in everything they do. It's a great college environment. The football's all it's cranked up to be, and the education and the degree are very valuable because of the success they'll have on the field and in the classroom.

I've seen teachers label just about everything in the classroom. And they'll put up a bulletin board that represents the different cultures in their classroom. That makes the child feel accepted.

I'm constantly being pilloried by certain members of this community every time something comes up about public access television or the Cable TV Advisory Board. Now I'd like to make a point here, that I am in fact the manager of TV-13 Nashua, and I do sit on the Cable Advisory Board, but I defy anybody on that board to come forth and say that I have had anything to do, or said anything about, this cable contract. I have recused myself at all times from every aspect of this contract. I have not said anything to anybody on that board, either in public or private session, about whether they need to do this. So, Ken Gidge, I don't know why you feel you need to take it out on me. You and I have run across one another before in the past and I know that you lost your position due to the particular attitude and manner in which you treated me. So let's not go there anymore about this. I would like you to retract what you just said about me. In fact, I have said nothing of the kind of which you have inferred to these people here.

The public schools bring the community together and make it more vibrant. I feel that this is an excellent opportunity to serve the community by serving on the Board of Education.
