en We maintain a bullish view, however predicated on indications that the fourth quarter is tracking inline/slightly ahead of expectations, an upward bias to fiscal 2006 earnings estimates, the fact that investors are beginning to look at and discount fiscal 2007 estimates, which make valuation multiples more palatable, and further consolidation into the New Year.

en Over recent months gold and equity prices have been positively correlated. This has particularly been the case in Japan, where investors have sought to lock in stock market gains by recycling funds into gold. With equity markets weakening, local investors sought to secure gains on gold and move into cash.

en With liquidity still strong, some valuation headroom remaining in our composite valuation indicator, and growth almost everywhere around the world stable to strong, it is hard to see why equity markets would not rise in the first part of 2006. We expect the positive equity market environment to run through into the first half of next year.

en Bond investors are discounting a slowing economy in the months ahead. Equity investors see a rebound ahead, and that instead of acting as a brake on the economy, the Fed's continuing hawkish stance is likely to serve as a sign that all is well, ... If you ask me, it sounds like at least one group of investors has been smoking something.

en Until investors get an idea as to where rates are going to go from here, that's likely to keep a lid on the equity market, even with expectations of strong earnings in the first quarter.
